Do you think it's the right choice for the FIRST single?

Whoops, spoke too soon...I am so glad I am wrong with what I said..and if you didn't read it already, you aren't going to find out..

"Released to Radio August 22nd? Could it be?

Us true fans(not the Loons), have said all we needed was a chance, and we would succeed. Well this is it. IF, and that's a big if, radio does play the song, I truly believe it will go somewhere. Wouldn't that be the shit if it did go to number 1? OMFG, I would stick it front and centre in all the loons grills..Journey under Perry NEVERhad a number one song..which was bullshit, but nevertheless..I am getting way ahead of myself.

Now I can come in from the ledge I was on..I know at least ONE radio DJ who is playing it..right Angie?

Back to the thread question..I think it is the best single to release FIRST..then you can throw the others out according to moods and seasons....

TPIYH is the most identifiably Journey song on the whole CD, and by far the most radio friendly. What do you think, Angie?

It's the best song on a great album. It weighs in lean and very mean at around 4:30 possibly making it more accessible to radio (HPlace was over 5).... The song stone cold, flat-out rocks...

Why NOT make it the first single :?: Aside: I LOVE the low menacing (good call Andrew) register Augeri uses in the frst verse on the word "Lives" right after the word "separate." It happens so cooly agan in verse 2 on "there" in the sentance "If I could take you there." Bravo to the team of Steve and Mike Fraser.

It's got all the makings of a JRNY hit....

Well, I'm still a little less then impressed with my whole Journey experience of the past week, so it might be a while before it's played. Especially, since my listeners will now have to PAY for a copy.

Thanks for the welcome! :) I believe you are right, but maybe the trend will continue. It's a great way for artists to get the word and music out there to the public.

Whooo boy! That's a comment that would open up a can o' whoop ass over at the Styx site(and probably Back Talk too). That's taking money out of the band's coffers, son!

(but that's how I do it sometimes...lol)

Well, to be honest, I don't think you should let your personal experiences of the live show affect your impressions of the music created. AND I think the fans should definately HEAR the music they can on the radio (for free) BECAUSE this is now a product they will have to buy to enjoy.

To be even more honest, my experience of that show was a direct result of a decision made by the band, their managment or whomever and it was less then well received by the people in this city(but I'm not going to regress to that again). They probably aren't real hip on listening right now either. I STILL get upset calls when I play a Journey song.

I think they are overreacting. $25 for 90 mins. of Journey is awesome. Just a lack of communication, IMO.

That's Complete BULLSHIT< Angie. Fuck South Dakota then.

Last week, I was the only fucking one who wanted to get to the bottom of that fiasco up there. NO ONE would comment..The fair Mgt. Journey Mgt. NO ONE! Hell BackTalk(of course) shut er down because, well, they're BackTalk. I have been stewing for over a week now.

I originally thought Journey Management could put a nice face on this, at least issue a statement on the ordeal....but NOOOOOOOO. nothing. While you say the Fair has commented, let me clue you in on a little something. I am williing to wager that YOU are the only one from Sioux Falls on this site AND BackTalk, and I have never read the Fairs' comment. There is a big bold world outside of lil old SFalls..try copying and pasting and letting us see it.

While I still don't know who's fault it is, and while I do think Journey should have issued a statement on the issue, you people STILL got the 90 minute version, which is still better than most other concerts. I saw Styx last week, their 'Full show" and it was way short of the 90 minute version Journey puts forth. I also highly doubt you folks get A quality bands up there, and you should feel grateful they even came...Probably won't again, that's for sure.

So don't play the fuckin CD. Tell your Program Manager to eat shit and spin "Let it Be" another 500 times. Journey has arguably put out the best new CD in Classic Rock/new artist this year... And no, I am not biased. I would vote for Generations or "Room Service" by Bryan Adams as best Melodic CD of this year. Who else has put ANYTHING out this year? Anything!??

This whole SF thing pisses me off. I think it's time to start a new thread and talk about this...Of course if your little Fair Mgr. can find the time.

Nice mouth. YOU were the one who wanted me to come here so bad and then you pull this crap? I think not. I posted what the fair management said on Back Talk. It was the same thing as what people posting reviews got for an answer too. YOU *and* Journey can shove your attitude and your cd.

That's fine. Look, BT will always delete anything controversial. I didn't get to see the Fairs' response. Hey if you guys up there want to have Journey and me shove the CD up our ass, fine! You are making the argument for me. That maybe Journey was correct in getting the hell out there. All I was trying to say is I was on YOUR side at first...Sioux Falls, the people there, the Fair, etc......and you are going to punish Journey by not playing the CD What is that? Then don't I hasten to think how many sales the Band will miss by crossing South Dakota off the list!

Angie, you need to come correct. You need to realize that your denial in playing the Bands music is your act of playing God over the Band.

I would say "don't play it." Don't hold my band hostage.

Like I said, what do you people have to bitch about? You got 90 mins!
If you don't like Journey coming to your town, then book Reba or Jethro or Cornbob Willy and the Bama 5, or some shit.

This is a truly historic, great band. For BOTH sides to act like this makes me want to kick BOTH your asses.

While I think it is an excellent choice for a first single, WHY THE FUCK aren't they playing it live?????? Do the band and management even communicate????

I know they played it at a few shows, but it is not one of the new staples.

Agreed. Journey must play this song from here on out and they should introduce it as "the brand new single" so the audience will KNOW that it is going to radio.

Well, Angie they DID announce that the fair in SD would be one of the shows NOT to get the giveway.
And further, at the outset of the tour it was clearly stated by the band that "most" not "All" venues would agree to let them distribute the album. Although I hate that your are threatening not to play The Place In your Heart when it officially is released to radio on the 21st I'm intrigued that you imply you have a choice in what you play on the air.

it's not my favorite, but it is one of the most identifiable "journey" sounding songs on the CD. i would be very surprised if it got any airplay, for example i think "higher place" is a better song, but it got very little airplay. "message of love" was released at the same time as "when you love a woman," and it went virtually unnoticed.

i think they should take a little risk and release "out of harms way" to rock stations and see how that does.

or maybe PIYH is a good first single to test the waters because its a more conventional journey song. then release "out of harms way" and "better life." they have more of a chance charting on AC right now, though "better life" isn't a traditional AC type song. despite what most think, i think the one big radio ballad (knowing that you love me) is just too early 90's sounding (it isn't called adult "contemporary" for nothing!).
