Journey single postponed.

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Sun Aug 21, 2005 4:55 am

From BT, it has been revealed that the first "Generations" single won't be released for another few weeks.

(http://www.journeymusic.com/ubb/Forum2/ ... 940-2.html)

On a related note, Kevin Shirley(Arrival, Trial by Fire) recently revealed on his website that he is "remixing one of the songs from the new Journey album for a single release"

I wonder if Kevin 'caveman' Shirley will touch up the whole album before it hits shelves in October.

Why would they go back to Kevin Shirley for anything to do with "Generations"? TBF sounded great, but he really dropped the ball on Arrival. And just WHAT does Journey think needs to be done to TPINH to get it ready for a single? Just put the damn thing out!

I was wondering the same thing.

Indeed it did (does) . So lush, so clarion.

Yup. Augeri sounded muddled and fuzzy throughout.

That's what I don't quite get. The 7 minute long FITH wound naturally need changes so to fit a radio format accordingly, but what alterations does TPIYH need done to it? Are there any?

Shirley? Why?
Elson and to whatever extent he was involved beyond steve's vox Fraser produced Generations. Why would they go back to Shirly, a different guy to remix what the other guys did? What is going on?

Could be a Sanctuary top brass mandated decision (i.e. Kalodner) ?

And THAT would be the first sign for us to worry!
JDK and Shirley were responsible for Arrival....

Aside from a little dissapointment over the date set-back, I see nothing to worry about here.
It's not like Shirley and Kalodner are going to take the finished album and somehow sully it?.
I mean, that would be totally impossible, right?
::gulp:: :shock:

If this is true and Shirley's involved I got REAL mixed meotions on it and that's putting it mildy. Oh, and thank you Rock-N-PuckHead evern MORE for seeing to it that I got the Elson version of TPIYH.
Why would they have him remix (so far) 1 song? And dare I say that I feel that Higher Place became a wonderful song DESPITE the presence of Shirley. Gr Hts Live sounds like shit, too (not that if I dropped it and the cd broke I woundn't be running to Tower to replace it immediately). But 28 and the Cause are right, while I like Kalodner's work wherever he is, the Cave Butcher cannot be far behind.

Yep, KLOD-ner has started meddling already.
Shirley had his preconceptions of what Journey should sound like as well.

It's a GREAT song...It ain't broke, so why 'fix' it?

According to BT, the song is being given the "radio mix". And CJ was kind enough to provide some text behind the possible reasons...having to do more with compressions of digital media and compressions of radio broadcasting causing the song to not sound right. So it COULD be that the song itself is not being changed, simply 're-formatted' for broadcast.

And Kevin Elson is working the sound for Journey's live show, therefore he was not available for this task.

That's better news then, however radio mix has usually meant removing or editing the guitar solo, etc.

Yeah, I am sure they will cut some of Neal's solo. Radio sucks.

I don't know about that. That solo makes the song IMHO... Plus, it isn't like BGTY, where the solo was 1'30"..

I remember the ONLY time I heard Higher Place here in Denver. It was on the CR station's website. The entire solo was gone! And the flow of the song was terrible because of it. I thought to myself 'no wonder the song isn't getting any airplay!'

Radio where the DJs and their music/program directors do not decide what to play sucks. Seems like for the most part that's what goes on these days....I guess the smaller the town the less chance of interference and dictation.

If a guitar solo needs to be cut, I would rather it not get played. Journey songs NEED their guitar solos....that is what makes them JOURNEY songs

That's right. As much as Perry was important, Neil Schon's MELODIC, SINGING GUITAR is the glue that held and continues to hold the band together.
