What a great album! When I first heard it, there was a song or two that I wasn't really thrilled with, but the more I listen to the CD (and I just received the European release today), the more I like all the songs.

Great music. Can't wait until the concert at the end of September.

I agree with Fred. Funny how some music doesn't hit you the first time around, but grabs you on that second listen.

To be honest, I used to think "It shouldn't have to grow on me"..Journey's earlier material always hit me right away. But I think I prefer the music that does grow on me. It seems to last longer.

After the first listen to Generations I thought "what the hell did I just hear"...same thing I thought after listening to Frontiers the first time.
Of course I thought the same thing with ROR, but overall it never grew on me quite the same way....

Arrival four years ago annoyed the daylights out of me....."This is the biggest Steve Perry rip off I've ever heard" and I only listened to it a few times. Then a few months ago I pulled it off the shelf and can't get enough of it now.

With the exception of some tepid bubble gum balladry, I fail to see what about "Arrival" is mimicking Perry.
Along with a nice collection of harder Schon/Blades rock collaborations, u had some truly fresh sounding numbers like "We Will Meet Again", "Livin to Do", "Kiss Me Softly"...none of that stuff exudes a sound from Journey's past.

C'mon guys, be realistic. While you might not hear "Perry" on Arrival, you DO hear a strong attempt to repeat the Escape/Frontiers era sound of Journey. It was painfully obvious that Sony was picking the songs that most sounded like Perry-days long past. The stand-out tracks ob Arrival were the ones that sounded like a new direction for Journey, instead of re-visiting the past.

Chaney and The Cause make HUGE points.
With Perry there is no way we'da had Higher Place, World Gone Wild, The Place In Your Heart, The Time stuff like that.
#1 is the obvious, he just would not rock out like that and #2 I don't think he'd cooperate with Blades collabarations as the first 3 are. I think he'd kick and scream about an outside writer.

I really only think 3-4 songs on Arrival showed a 'new direction' for Journey. That means IMO 10-11 tracks sound like trying to capture a thing of the past, why didn't work. Arrival could have been done by Perry...just not as well. (Of course Perry would have done well, but the CD would have lost something else. If Perry had sung Arrival it would have been TBF 2.)

My only point was that you can understand where soledad is coming from even if he was wrong. It may not sound like Perry on Arrival, but it does sound like Sony wanted it to sound as much like perry as possible.

I agree. I absolutely don't see a Perry connection at all with Arrival. In fact, to me, I don't really hear a Journey "sound" like I do with Generations.
