Does this make me a bad person?

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Thu Sep 01, 2005 11:39 am

Jonathan, being a real trouper and following the old adage of "the show must go on" has decided to play the shows this weekend in Atlantic City. However, the shows will not be 3 hours as initially advertised. While I am glad that the band will be putting on a show, I can't help but feel slightly bamboozled.
I mean, aren't my 60 dollar tickets priced for a 3 hour show?
Can anyone here who has been to a 90-minute set show tell me how much they paid?
If 90 minute shows normally cost less to attend than $60, aren't I entitled to some sort of remuneration?

I hate to come off ingrateful as I am glad they are putting on a show after all. However, with the news of the now shortended set list I can't help but wonder if I deserve to have my ticket price reduced.
Can anyone clarify?

Thanks in advance,
TNC

No, you get what you get, no matter what. You can't bitch, or be unhappy about it or even be a little disappointed. You suck it up and take what the band gives you because you should be grateful they are even taking the time to play before you. OH, hope you get the added bonus of an encore!

Yeah, but weren't your tickets only $40?
If so, you guys really only paid for the reduced setlist any how.

Any other band I've ever seen for ANY price ticket will either play a super long set or have the decency to have an opening band. Neither. My guess is they won't give you an opening band either.

I saw REO at the Cerritos Center and they were the only ones on the bill and played about an hour. I saw Paul Rodgers in Seattle and he was the only one on the bill and played a little over an hour. Those are just a couple that come to mind.

Well, then you are easier to satisfy than I am. I'd at least like my money's worth.

Journey could have canceled and you would have gotten nothing but your money back. Which would you have rather had?

It would have been about the same slap in the face. Hey, I'm just quoting words that were said to ME, just repeating them back, so you don't have to.

I'm not talking to you, I was talking to TNC. You have made your feelings clear already.

TNC, Journey has two choices - play a shorter set to accomodate Jon and at least still give the fans a show. Or cancel the show and give fans their money back. Of course, Journey loses money in this scenario. Everyone loses in the second scenario. So I think Journey is doing the right thing. I already know Angie disagrees, so you can spare us the leftover vitriol from what happened in SD, Angie.

That's not really the point. You said: "Any other band I've ever seen for ANY price ticket will either play a super long set or have the decency to have an opening band." The point is that at least from my experience, your statement is incorrect. I doubt my concert-going experience is unusual.

If 90 minute shows normally cost less to attend than $60, aren't I entitled to some sort of remuneration
?

When Journey played in Milwaukee it was at Summerfest at the Marcus Ampitheater, which is a paid venue. The tickets were suppose to be $25.00 each (including the $12.00 admission to Summerfest), but when all the ticket charges were added, I paid $69.40 for 2 tickets.

I'm not complaining at all. I would've paid $70.00 per ticket for the Journey show that I saw. This was the longest show by one band that I have ever been to. I thought the show was close to 3 hours. I didn't know the first batch of songs, but that's okay, it was very relaxing.

Before I went to the show, I made the mistake by reading all the Journey boards and reading about the free cd. At this show they didn't give away a free cd, I was a itty bitty disappointed, but it was okay. I ended up buying one for $15.00, which was worth it to me. I'm just ticked that I didn't buy a concert shirt.

I would hope they would still play, even if their show was shortened. If I was part of the management team, I would have an article in each local paper explaining why the show will be shortened. I personally don't think it's a big deal because most of the fans that will be going are probably casual Journey fans and may not know the difference. The die-hards will know because those are the ones that are on the message boards and on the internet.

Just my opinion 8)

Dang! This would have been a great time to get Rolie to do a guest appearance and make everyone extra happy. They should have called him to do keyboards for a few shows. Heck, I would have bought a ticket for that.

That would have been cool, but I doubt Rolie could have played very many of the dirty dozen. Maybe a handful of songs.

What a fantasy. you kid, NIG, but how cool would THAT be? A little set with Oh Sherry, She's Mine, You Better Wait, Foolish Heart, another nice rocker or 2 off Street Talk.... Then it would be a good opening act.

Like Diamond Dave opening for VH.

Kyle Boller will become a good quarterback before either of those things happen.

OMG! I bet Eddie would shape up for just that. Talk about missing a great frontman when a band was great.

I think it is the "easy way out" for journey. Instead of cancelling and re-scheduling they are moving on and shortening the setlist. I am sure you will get a great show anyway, but it is a little pricey. My way of looking at it is: You already spent your money, it's already paid for. Just enjoy it!

You're at least getting a c.d. With this show, so that's something.

I'm really sorry for you N.C. I know how you have been looking forward to this. I'm being sincere, honest! Coming from me, bask in it.

Been a lonnngggg while since I've listened to Street Talk, were there any rockers on it? Strung Out maybe, a stretch for me to call it a rocker though.
I think I prefered FTLOSM which was an attempt at more of the Journey sound overall. Some of the unreleased ones on the (should have been called) Two Greatest Hits, ect. and Five Unreleased I found interesting as well.

My, My....the way you talk about Journey usually, I would think you would be peeing your pants that they are going to show at all considering the circumstances. I think my picture of you is about complete now.

Hey, it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend here. HEad for the boardwalk, throw some money in the slots and thank God you don't live in New Orleans!
