Perry and Augeri Live

Trying not to be swayed by personal preference of which singer you like most, who actually sings Journey songs better and closer to the studio recordings in a live performance.

Always reading about Perry vs Augeri, who is better etc.
To me from what I`ve heard so far, Augeri sounds very similar to Perry which can be taken either way.
I thought Steve Perry had the best voice in "ROCK" between the classic
years 1977/1978 to 1983.

Hearing his voice in later years does not appeal to my ear any more but thats not to say he`s any better or worse than before just older and different.

Classic era Steve Perry will always be my preference-long gone the glory years.

OOPS! I was waiting for a question!

I will agree with your statement that Perry was the best voice in rock.
I will also say that there should not be any comparison between Perry and Steve, although it happens often. Steve was the best and he had a very unique talent. Steve is very good. That's how it is and there is nothing wrong with that.

Tough to say. In his prime Perry was an astonishing live front man/singer.

I absolutely love Augie's live show NOW, though. Especially these last few tours he really seems to be hitting the stride and I still do not think Perry ever did Open Arms as well as Augeri does.

Singing aside, I think he's incredibly cool the way he carries himself. Humble, yet charsimatic. Smooth. Got swagger without being arrogant. Wittty, smart.

When I think of guys who just exude cool you've guys like Neal and Keith Richards as guitarists, Augeri's gotta be one of the coolest frontmen. And a hell of a singer to boot.

I've always said that Perry was incredible with the entire crowd, where Augeri takes things to a more one to one level. I'm not ripping on either one or making one better than the other, but after seeing both live several times, it what I've observed.
When its all boiled down and the days at an end, I'll give you no bullshit and I'll never pretend.

Why shouldn't there be a comparison? Augeri replaced Perry...who are you going to compare him to, Bono?
It's only natural that comparisons be made.
As for the best voice in rock back in the day....I'd put Robert Plant ahead of Perry, but that's about it...

Great point. Perry could work up a 10,000 seat arena into a frenzy and Augie has a knack for making the girl in row 3 seat 12 feel like she's the only one in that 10,000 seat arena. Look at Be Good to yourslelf on the dvd when he reels the girl in hook line and sinker..

Robert Plant is in no way a better singer than Steve Perry... past, present, or future. You're way off on that one.

I think Steve Augeri has his own style of singing, and I happen to like it. I enjoyed listening to Journey this time around much more, with the variety the show brought, than when it was "The Steve Perry Show." Steve can go one on one with his audience, unlike Perry, who wanted to be the whole show.

And might I remind everybody that Perry left his own tour to go back to Journey, only to put the screws to them once again. My observation is that Perry claims to be such a perfectionist, yet never finishes anything he starts. He apparently wanted the band to continue waiting so that the band would be no more......As in he had no intention of ever coming back. Oh well.....Surprise, Perry, they are doing just fine without you.

Of course more people prefer Perry over Plant on a Journey board. Most people in the general rock fan world, I hate to say it, would probably prefer Plant. I know a lot of people who dislike Journey BECAUSE of Perry. Not everyone loves him as much as we do.
