HEY ~ anyone remember "Giuffria"??

Hey all.....

Talk about "synchronicity":

Over the Labor Day weekend, "The River" 105.9 here in CT had a "Rock n Roll A-Z Countdown". While they were in the "C"s, they played "Callin' To Your Heart".

Anyone out there remember this song??

"Callin' to your HAAAAHHHT...."

I remember thinking it was a new JOURNEY song....Greg Giuffria sounded EXACTLY like a "Frontiers era" Steve Perry on this song....it came out in 83, too...

If you never heard this song, you'll think it's a "Frontiers" outtake...I swear. I wonder if he was ever considered to audition for Journey...??

Ironically enough, Mr. Giuffria lost everything at the same time of this countdown due to Hurricane Katrina - he lives in Mississippi now.

Says He'll Rebuild

The coast of Mississippi was hit hardest by hurricane Katrina. Biloxi is a hub of music and casinos on the Gulf Coast.

One musician of note affected by the devastation, is Gregg Giuffria (Angel, Giuffria, House of Lords). Gregg's new project, the Biloxi Hard Rock Casino was getting ready to open it's doors for the first time next week. Katrain blew through and flattened the building. It's a total loss.

Gregg's still getting over a fire that destroyed his studio about a year ago.

According to melodicrock.com, the $235 million resort was scheduled to open sometime before September 8 and the press was given a sneak peak last Friday.

Gregg spoke to melodicrock.com and said he is understandably upset and cursing his "luck". But he was quick to add that he is more concerned about the people in the area and the widespread damage caused. Gregg says they will rebuild and put it back together, although the memorabilia is lost forever.

Gregg told fans to log onto www.wlbt.com and click on the link to video from Sky Chopper 3 - which tours the devastated area. About 10 to 15 minutes in to the 20 minute segment, the helicopter flies over the Hard Rock resort.

Giuffria is one of my favorite keyboardists. I have to agree with the Journey-comparison. Although David Glen Eisley isn't exactly Perry-material (actually, DGE isn't a very good vocalist at all...but he suits the style.) As far as Frontiers-esk tracks are concerned, one that comes to mind is 'No Escape.' You tell me if he was trying to copy 'Seperate Ways?'

The reissue of his first album is a consistent seller on NEH Records. Always popping up in the monthly Top 30 somewhere.

Ya know, many have said they were fooled by Giuffria to think Journey had new material...that never happened to me. I like Giuffria alot, DGE is a good singer, but I don't like Greg's keys too often. Greg has gotten back to House Of Lords for their new CD, I am looking forward to that.

Actually the song mentioned came out in the fall of 84. I need to get that album, I have the second Giuffria album but it's poorer than the first.

I have the first one on vinyl and cassette, and the second on cassette and CD. I would love to get the first one on CD.

I thought it was Journey when I first heard it. But when you compare it now, it doesn't really sound like Perry's Frontiers-era vocals.

They were a little Journey-esque at times. I thought Call To Your Heart might have been Journey for a second, but Jonthan would never use the fat, thick synth sounds Giuffria did, and at that time Jon never used organ.
Eisley was good at times, but couldn't decide if he wanted to be Perry or David Lee Roth. Saw them open for Foreigner, he even dressed like DLR.

No, it was in support of their self-titled album, probably 1984? It was the Foreigner 4 tour. I thought they were better than Foreigner that night but only played 30-40 minutes, as most opening acts did. Their guitarist was very good, he wasn't around for Silk and Steel, went on to join Dio I believe. Talk about a band with member turnover...Guiffria and House of Lords have had more guitarists than they've had albums. Greg must have been very difficult to work with.

I thought Greg Giuffria was the lead singer....shows how much I know about this group.....trying to do a "total recall" for a 19-year-old song

Thanx for the heads up....hearing that song again brought me right back to Junior year of high school....sigh....
