Everything from every era has imperfections, things that could have been done differently. Frontiers could have the soundtrack songs. They could have used Herbie's artwork instead of Perrys.

Are you saying that it was Perry's idea to use Elmo instead of a scarab theme that Herbie wanted, or is the artwork remark regarding ROR?
They were always wrong to go with Perry's desires over Herbie's.

I agree that many do look to that era as a means of judging this one, and there were many areas that left something to be desired back then.
Perry live in the late 70s was unbelievable, but live Perry after the Escape tour...he ceased singing the songs the way they should have been sung, even the band sounds like they're trying to rush through to get the songs over with on Greatest Hits Live. Yet Augeri live is judged based on Perry's studio peformances by the general audience, and holds his own very well in my opinion.

Great point. People need to shine a light on Perry's live performances from Frontiers onward and admit that his voice and performance was far below the standards he set for himself. I am sure it was the relentless touring and wear and tear that harmed that beautiful voice.

True, his voice was abused from the constant touring for about 6 years and doing so many shows per year. No way that kind of voice could go unaffected from that much work. This is obvious, yet people continue to look at Perry with blinders on and through rose colored glasses as if he always sounded perfect.

I prefer the Generations artwork to ROR. I love the dynamic colors on the scarab.....very JRNYesque..... Maybe not as good as Arrival's Japanese cover (the old scarab encrusted and bruied in stone being chipped away at again stating the real jryn sound's been there all along, but being brought to the forefront again now. 2 cracks in the scarab signifying to me that though nearly broken JRNY held together. Are those cracks symbolic of Perry and Smitty?) but the equal to Payne's Red13 which I like a lot, much more that the original website one.

I don't have a problem with the Generations scarab as many have stated, I think its kind of a cool nod to Captured and the history of the band.
Interesting thoughts on the Arrival cover.

Absolutely. It jumped out at me right away as a modern homage to the Captured cover scarab. Like it a lot. Anyone see that absolute LYNCHMOB that broke out on BT when the cover was revealed? People fucking HATED it.

I never understood that. I liked it right off the bat. It's one of their best covers in my opinion. But being that passionate EITHER way about a cover struck me as somewhat schizaphrenic anyway. Just another layer of cement in the wall between Cain and Schon and the internet world.

It's not an homage, it's an uninspired rip-off. They took the Captured scarab and threw it ontop of an Astronomy book (Dave's wording, not mine). I mean, I kinda like it. I dig the galactic motif, but they could do alot better.

By the way Picasso-(Monker)..What is so wrong with ROR's artwork? If you ask me, it may be the only Journey CD where the artwork is better than the crap inside of it? All those poppy cornball songs, save 3-4 of them...This album is crap...but the "artwork, ie, picture of a fogged in futuristic radio station is cool..maybe Angie works there?
Bingo...there is a definite correlation between music and what the friggin album covers look like...
I mean, I passed by that Beatles White Album...with such a blah cover the music HAD to have been bad...
