So, according to both "I Love All Access" and Neal himself, the Dallas show will be about 4 hours long and recorded for possible DVD release.

This is very exciting news but we'll have to just wait and see. I hope there are enough cameras to ensure good footage. I would hate a repeat of Warfield.

Two questions that I will have to wait to be answered:

Possibility of special guests? With a 4 hour show it would give them room to do that. I would imagine the intermission will be a little longer this time as well.

How much footage will actually make it onto DVD? I hope they do a 2 disc DVD with ALL the footage. But I am guessing that Journey will play additional material so that, if there is a problem, they can remove some footage and still have a full disc.

I call bullshit right now.

We've been down this road before.

As long as the songs aren't from Infinity through TBF there won't be a problem getting them on DVD. :P

I was referring to sound or video problems, not content problems.

I understand your point, but I do feel that:
    A) it is important for the band to film this tour in the hopes of a DVD
    B) that they should worry about the 'legalities' after obtaining the footage
    C) that Perry might be 'ok' with a new DVD from Journey since he will also benefit from it
    D) maybe there has already been a deal made, since Neal and Jon have to give consent for the Houston and ROR DVDs that Perry and JDK are planning.

I was thinking about this too...

Neal and Jonathan could have made a deal that said that Sony/Perry could only release the Houston DVD if they were allowed to release a DVD of this tour.

That would explain the delay in the Escape DVD, and Perry sorta dodging the question on his last Fanasylum interview....saying the timing wasn't right, or some odd thing.

I think it's a great idea...I've been saying they should have done this for a couple years now.

Depends on how well the show goes.

Given the show I saw, the review you gave, and all the other reviews I have read....I don't think that will be a problem!

I think it's a great idea too.

NC, the way the tour has been going, (awesome), what do you think could go wrong? If the guys are planning a DVD, they must obviously have taken into consideration all the usual things.

I'm pumped over this news. Sounds like it could be the best setlist since irvine, but with much more practiced, tighter vox/playing.
As amaron or someone said though, I won't hold my breath. 28 pointed out the Warfield fiasco.

Hoping they've made the deal with Perry, but I'm most interested in the Generations material and the pre-Inifinity material.
So what will the additional hour consist of I wonder. More Augeri era stuff and rarely played gems like Dead or Alive, Edge of the Blade and Rubicon hopefully. However, they'll probably have Neal and Ross do both of the vocal songs they have done on this tour instead of the usual one apiece and have Deen do a couple extra and pick the best peformances by each of the three of them. I don't see them having Steve do an additional hour himself.
Regardless, this is great news and definitely should be much better than the 2001 DVD set list.

I wish they had recorded the Sioux Falls show and released it on DVD. They could have called it, "When Good Crowds Go Bad."

The Sioux Falls Chief Advocate/Crusader/FreedomFighterForAllThatIsRightForPayingConcertGoers
is still saying (on other forums of course because it's been roundly rebuked and disproved here), STILL is writing that they got "screwed."

And I still say when it's announced PRIOR TO THE SHOW that local ordinances preclude the 3 hour show, when it's further announced that venue accounting exclusions prevent the cd from being distributed, and then tickets are discounted proportionately that NOBODY got screwed. Forewarned is forearmed and they were certainly forewarned, and then from many accounts of airborne objects aimed stageward, they were also forearmed.
But a sense of entitlement and getting screwed are different things.

Not to start this all again, but apparantly Journey never announced that the set was abbreviated. And supposedly the set was abbreviated at Journey's choice not the venues.

For the most part, it sounded as if Journey had walked off stage before LTS, walked back on stage and played LTS then the audience would have been OK.

Whatever...

That's what the aforementioned individual contends. i think the band may differ. Have any of the fairs really been 3 hours?

Again, not the point, as far as Angie is concerned. Journey has been been playing 3 hour shows and they did not announce a show less than that. Since the venue did not have a time constraint, it all fell on Journey.

I agree with Deano that Journey could certainly have used some PR to smoothe the event over. But then, there is not a huge impact from this event...I did not see any controversial articles or news reports on it. So, at the end of the day, it was all inconsequential...

Yes it is the point.
Is it not fairly common knopwledge that fair shows will be pretty much exclusively Greatest Hits shows for bands? I don't think a lot of people would go see a band at a fair expecting a martathon show of rareities obscurities and new tracks.

If you want to MAKE that the point, then take a number and get in line behind all the other fairs that got 90 minutes.

I think they COULD release it by Xmas. I don't think there is any reason why they could not edit and mix the show and package the product in that amount of time. And it would the SMART time to do it. But I expect it to be more like the end of the first quarter of 2006....

The Dallas show is tomorrow and is in "Grand Prairie". The Woodlands is near Houston and was postponed due to Rita.

If we see it before next summer we'll be doing well. The 2001 DVD was shot Dec 30, 200 and it wasn't available until almost a full year later!

Yep...I was thinking the same thing. If they are taking next year off, there is really not a lot of promotion going on for this DVD...no tour, no new CD (next summer). I have to wonder how this DVD is going to sell...

One thing they could do though - pull videos from the concert and release them to VH1/VH1Classic...if they can produce those early. Kinda like they did for Arrival.

Also, if Perry/jdk release the Escape video, they are sorta competing against themselves if they release both DVD's around Christmasl.

I think hour and a half dvds are called porn trailers and I think Red was busy that night. It would have never worked.
