I was just going to post this link as well. But I was going to point out the positive things Cain had to say about both Perry and Steve!

"Steve and I were hit-song freaks," Cain said. "I studied it, worked on it. Turned out we both loved Three Dog Night, Gary Puckett and The Temptations. There was a passion for the hook, the elusive hook of a song. And when we sang harmonies, we wanted to sound like Three Dog Night. I think Steve and I sort of made a pact to really try our best."

Cain said he has just as good a working relationship with current singer Steve Augeri, who joined Journey in 1998.

"He has a great instinct for songs, for what's working and what's not," Cain said. "Instinctively, he just knows what's right.

"I think he respected Journey a lot. He began learning the Steve Perry moves, but it progressed into him going more for his own thing. I think now he's really found his voice as a songwriter and singer in this band."

GREAT GREAT GREAT interview...that's the kind of information I like to hear....honestly pretty revealing...

Steve Perry has been called many negative things (an insecure baby, at time, is probably the most fitting)...but I didn't take anything negative from Cain's interview towards him. Cain sounds like he respects Perry and the continual evolution of Journey.

Last night Journey was playing in concert on near my town. I didn't go see them, but the coolest thing was that a classic rock station was playing a special on Journey's time line of music from the begining to present.

My daughter & I had just got done with an appointment & turned on the radio& guess WHO was singing on the radio??? Steve Perry of course!

Now we came in the middle of the special, so we didn't get to hear from the very beginning, but we got alot enjoyment listening to Perry sing so many songs, one right after the other, all the way home in the busy rush hour traffic. It sure made our drive home ALOT more fun!

I especially LOVED hearing "Message Of Love", & "When You LOVE A Woman".

Then they played a song from Arrival cd ( Augeri of course) & then they played ''Wheel In The Sky'' with Augeri singing. After hearing Steve Perry sing, so many songs back to back, & then Augeri singing, it really SHOWS "the difference" in these two singers talents & what makes Perry the GREATER talent between them!

It's definitely the Steve Perry Years (classic Journey) that counts for ME!!!

This is probably going to be an unpopular point of view, but it sounds to me like Jon's doing a bit of blowing his own horn there. He sounds as if he's trying to say he was Journey's savior or something.

That's the first I've ever heard about Columbia getting ready to drop Journey before Jon joined them. Does anyone else know anything about that? He also said Neal and Steve were at odds with each other over songs even then. I thought it was Jon's Open Arms that caused the most controversy. Those "shallow" song ideas of Steve's(ie Lights, LTS)were the closest things to hits Journey had had up to that point.

Grating shrillness probably is a little rough...IMO...but I DO agree, though the live track off Captured is far superior to Perry in the studio...again....IMO.

Let's face it...as much as we love Journey, they HAVE become irrelevant without Perry. Blame the music industry....and everything else...Perry brought Journey FRONT AND CENTER...Go ahead and and rip him...not only is it tiresome, but it's irrelevant as the band is now. Christ, they played in BOSTON and there was NO review....that's because STEVE PERRY, the person whose name is synonymous with the band is no longer a member....why can't you just deal with it....Myself....I'm bored of the whole debate...Christ, even the NEW lead singer wants to put out a solo work...which only the backtalk lemmings and several on this site would even consider plunking down money for.
