The timing of the Houston DVD/CD combo release...

Postby jrnyjetster » Thu Oct 06, 2005 12:17 pm

:?: Was this done diliberately by Sony and Steve Perry to draw attention AWAY from Generations and THIS lineup? OR, do you think this was purely coincidental? :? My opinion, BAD timing....

The thought had crossed my mind.
The current lineup already has enough problems moving out from under Perry's shadow.
These dvds are merely another albatross hung around their stock-still necks.

In a word...YES!
I think it is very intentional to release vintage product near the time of new product. But I think they missed it a little. However the announcement of the DVD was perfectly timed...

THAT is the theme of this shitty management.. I don't care what anyone says..The BT people included..THIS Mgt sucks.

I will go one further.. If anyone disagrees with me(I can see the BT folks getting all ruffled and shit), then tell me how great this Mgt team is? Tell me please! I want to know why my opinion is wrong.

I must have missed something.
What does Journey's current management have to do with the release of this dvd? If anything?
I get the impression that it's Sony's call and is pretty much out of the guys' hands.

Oh sorry there, Rush....whatever the hell your gay name is tonight..I am sure it will be different tomorrow......

This single, be whatever it be, should have been out a looooong tome ago...Journey is at war with Sony IMO..

Journey should dictate the chain of events...They are always responding to something...this time being Sony..

Journey should be on their 2nd single by now, and Sony's release of this DVD should only be enhancing the current Journey lineup...

There is NO WAY U2 would be still "remixing" a single, when the fuckin tour is on it's last week..or any othe band for that matter...YEAH Rush, Mgt has EVERYTHING to do with this..

Awaiting your Dictionary filled overused verbage post..Can't FUCKING wait! by the way, i know what all those words mean; and trust me, they are ALL overused for a message board..hell, we didn't use the words you use in the Goddamned Whitehouse..But hey, it's free country...if you feel it makes you look smartewr than you really are, have at it there, Rushy...

What would Journey releasing a second single do in regards to the all-powerful corporate giant, Sony?
Journey can release 3,4,5,6,7 singles ad infinitum.
What effect would that have on big dog Sony?

Rock'ndeano wrote:Journey should dictate the chain of events...They are always responding to something...this time being Sony..

This classic dvd would be a formidable threat to the current Journey lineup regardless of when it came out and regardless of how many 'Generations' singles had been released. The sad truth is ANY Perry/Journey product will serve to detract from any budding notoriety this lineup may have.

Rock'ndeano wrote:Journey should be on their 2nd single by now,

Rock'ndeano wrote:and Sony's release of this DVD should only be enhancing the current Journey lineup...

Any Perry-lineup product will do more to overshadow any publicity the current lineup might be enjoying. There's simply more name value there w/ Perry. It might call a modicum of attention to what the new lineup is doing so that's good. But overall these Perry-lineup dvds only help to ingrain into the public conciousness that Perry is thee one and only singer of this band.
In my view, they do more harm then good.
Some, like Dave, would prolly disagree with me.

Rock'ndeano wrote:There is NO WAY U2 would be still "remixing" a single, when the fuckin tour is on it's last week..or any othe band for that matter...YEAH Rush, Mgt has EVERYTHING to do with this..

Journey's belated response to mixing the single and getting it prepped for radio may be managements fault, I don't know. But what does that have to do with this dvd release? You're conflating issues.

Rock'ndeano wrote:Get that stupid?

No I don't. And u still didn't answer what Journey management has to do with Sony independently sending out a press release today. The fact that ur now frustratingly resorting to name calling shows me that u dont quite understand ur own points either.

I really think it's a stretch to find some conspiracy here. Let me ask this though, if the new lineup is helping sell the Greatest Hits CD(as has been stated here), why wouldn't this new release help sell the new lineup? It should work both ways, wouldn't you think? People love the new DVD, so they check out the current band?

Easily. You proclaimed yourself the victor and yet you hadn't responded to a single one of my raised points (in fact, u still haven't).
Then you said you were off to bed.
If that's not cravenly running away, I don't know what is.

Rock'ndeano wrote:You are a super guy there Blowhard..I am right here..wanna go all night? I am game..

There is zero substance here for me to reply to.

Rock'ndeano wrote:Dude, you don't impress anyone using the dictionary..lol...you are a fucking embarrassment to yourself.

Again you are straying off topic. Debate the points I raised concerning the band, Journey, or don't debate at all.
And for the record, I don't use a dictionary.
This is the way I talk and I am completely unabashed of it.

Rock'ndeano wrote:On second thought, I am going to go..not because big bad blowhard The Noble Rush scared me..I got better things to do..

Nah, you're right. You don't run away at all. lol

Hi,
I just expounded on this a little ways above.
While the classic dvd might call a modicum of attention to what the new lineup is doing, overall it mainly serves to ingrain into the public conciousness that Perry is THEE singer of this band. Sure, a Perry-era dvd may help the current band a smidge, but mainly, it will overshadow any publicity the current lineup might currently be building. So in my view, these dvds probably do more harm then good.
But it's not a clear cut issue.
Some people, like yourself, would prolly disagree with me and posit the adage of 'all publicity is good publicity!'
And you might be right.

She's not arguing with me.
She made a post and I courteously responded to it.
Y'know, the type of civil correspondence and inter-banter that is the norm for message boards like this?

Rock'ndeano wrote:Trust me, the dichotomy between he and the rest of us is plain as a Nebraska corn field..

More arbitrary character defamation.
There are many non-forum outlets for you to air your personal grievances with me.
Talk about Journey or else save it for pm or IM.

Rock'ndeano wrote:Hurry up dude, go look up "dichotomy." too funny..

Any comedic value the dictionary shtick might've possibly once held, wore off about the 50000th time u invoked it.
Get some new material.

Why would you think I disagree? I agree completely that a vintage DVD will overshadow new Journey material. It is still about the familiar to most of the audience. And Perry is what is familiar.

Now, if the Journey website were listed on the back of the dvd, it MIGHT generate some publicity for Journey as they are now. Otherwise, it only detracts.

I don't see how the current Journey will suffer from the release of the new Houston DVD. It's another way to get the SONGS out there. Journey is the music, not just Perry. Plus don't you think a majority of the people who will buy it are already fans and know that Perry is no longer with Journey?

And Perry must need the dough. He spends more time releasing old Journey videos and concerts than he does making new music. Seems like he is still in the band!

No argument here Dean, it's all cool sugar. 8) We're just having a talk. Try not to get so upset.

Back to the DVD ---

Wouldn't you think that those people who some of you said bought the GH CD and DVD because of the current band would also go see that band because of this concert DVD? Why doesn't that logic work both ways? They knew it was Perry/Journey when they bought the other releases, but according to your previous theory they support the new band because it's keeping the music alive.

I'm REALLY NOT arguing with anyone. I'm just discussing this. :D

I agree with amaron that many of the sales of this dvd will still come from people who do not 'follow' the band. They will be surprised by a Journey dvd. They will pick it up and remember what Journey was like.

Sure there will be many current fans picking this cd up as well. That is why the vintage Journey products do well...both kinds of fans buy the stuff. New Journey material does not get the same fans.

It's a shame Journey and Perry could not have come to an agreement to package Generations in with the DVD. That could have been a huge boost for the current lineup.

I think anything that puts the band's name out there for public view has the potential to spark new or renewed interest in people who have been unaware or dispassionate about the group. If Mr. Perry wants to keep promoting Journey, I say more power to him!

I agree! Plus the fans win, too! But the timing is a bit strange. This has been put on hold for soooo long, then it is released a month and a half after Journey's new CD hits the shelves. Maybe the effect of this will be minimal, but it is still strange...

The entire project was produced by former lead vocalist Steve Perry, with the full cooperation of the band.
- Andrew, melodicrock.com

Without any knowledge of past events, one might wonder why Perry isn't in the band today. :?
