Big time, Yak.

Outa that crew I think I'd rate THE VOICE  (sorry, out of retirement) 4th ahead of only Diamond Dave.

Well obviously I think a certain tenor from Chicago is placed far too low

I think the list is subjective. Do I agree with the choices...no. But then, I probably have different taste here than most. I take these lists with a grain of salt. They won't change my opinion, and it's doubtful they'd sway someone else either. People are going to like who they like. Just that simple.

IMO, Clapton's voice is perfect for the type of music he does, as is his guitar playing.
I think Perry fans who appreciate the "character" his voice reflected in later years might appreciate that in Clapton as well, though the comparison really is apples to oranges. I feel that Clapton's voice has been better in the last 15-20 years than it was prior to that.

I didn't mean to imply that I don't like Clapton, and I love the Beatles, I was just saying those are some of the names that always show up on lists because they're icons. What I was saying about talent was directed toward the "flavor of the month" names that also show up on them. In fact, there was a list several months ago that put some rapper named Dr Dre(or something like that)ahead of some of the best rock acts of all time.

You're right, that's why the same names end up on all these lists. It also seems that when a "survey" is conducted whether it be through a radio station or internet, it's usually the same fans that do the survey so you're going to get the same type of lists.

What's nice about these forums besides you great people, is that we all have our own opinions, which is great.

Here are my top 5 Male vocalists (as of today, since I tend to change a lot) LOL

1. Dennis DeYoung - bet none of you knew that - LOL
2. Steve Perry
3. Rob Thomas
4. Rik Emmett
5. Geddy Lee

I do agree they are all icons, but I think Clapton would legitimately deserve to be listed due to the qualities of his voice. I would not say the same about Jagger, Steven Tyler, etc, certainly not any rappers, that is ridiculous. But I feel Clapton is the best (at least best white) male blues vocalist I've ever heard, just based on his album From the Cradle alone.

I agree Clapton has earned the respect, and I also agree that Jagger and Tyler haven't. I do like some of Arrowsmith's music, but it's not because of Tyler's voice. There's nothing about Jagger or the Stones that I like at all.

I would say maybe Tyler is a great front man, but not a great singer.
I agree about Jagger, even though he's a rock and roll legend, there are
just a few Stones songs I care much for.

He's probably referring to the idiotic comments based on nothing that you're continuously making. Such as saying Augeri is singing flat on Generations, etc. Comments like this give little credibility to your opinion that Perry sings well on FTLOSM and TBF.

She wrote Don't Want To Miss A Thing. She was the writer of When I See You Smile which Jon and Neal weren't crazy about using, not having written it and it giving Bad English the reputation of being a ballad band.
Not sure about QFC.

You still post nothing positive about Perry, only "smackdowns" against Journey.
You pretend to have heard all of "Generations" but cannot give any sort of supported opinions.

I believe he is referring to the Bad English "fiasco". When I See You Smile was written by Diane Warren and it was a sore spot to Neal and Jon because they didn't feel the need to go "outside" for a hit. It was also the sort of pop-ballad-drivel that they did not want to play.

Carole Bayer Sager and (I think) David Foster wrote I Stand Alone for Quest For Camelot. Once Perry recorded the "single" version his name was included in the writing credits.

I know you are rightfully pissed about the game Saturday, BUT, you are wrong. This isn't opinion. I saw Lou Gramm open for Journey at Arrowfest in 2003...He was God-awful..fat, horrible voice, everyhing. Everyone walked out for more alcohol...He sucks.

Jimi Jameson? Nope. Perry IMO, is still better than these scrubs. The Problem with Steve is we haven't heard him in 10 years. I would love it if he would blow our doors off with a great release...but?

Sorry, messed up, DeYoung still has his voice.. Very very good, still.

How much of that has to do with his illness? I've heard from so many that he doesn't sound very good anymore, which is a crying shame. Must be very hard on him as well.

Haven't really followed him all that much so I can't say.

I actually think he's improved his vocal skills quite a bit...and is anyone surprised that I would feel that way?

Whew, I'm glad you added that (DeYoung) to the post or I would've been all over you for missing him - LOL

I know Lou Gramm has health issues, but is his voice really that bad? What about Jameson? Doesn't he still sound good? You're talking about the guy from Survivor (the band not the tv show-LOL) right? I just saw them a couple months ago and I thought he sounded good, except that he forgot a few words here and there.

Hey Sugar, I would love to have my doors blown off too.

I haven't heard any of these guys, except Perry of course, since their '80s recordings. That's what I was basing my opinions on. All the guys at their prime, like the list SMB posted.
