What might've been.....

Postby sngrchk04 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:01 am

Hello again all....

I bought a second copy of GH+5 (I wore out/scratched the HELL out of my first copy...it was floating around my car lol) and took the time to read all the liner notes....

....very interesting:

If you read about "Against the Wall", RANDY JACKSON played bass on the tracks highlighted.

And that got me thinking:

Can any of you imagine what would've happened if Steve made the split from Journey back in the late 80s (when ATW was supposed to be released)?? I mean, Rolling Stone Magazine reported that he was "mull(ing) a split from Journey" BACK IN 1984!

My question is:

Why on EARTH was the Recording Industry so intent on stalling/shelving anything Steve did as a solo entity? Plenty of OTHER lead singers did the same (Don Henley "Building the Perfect Beast"; Sting "Dream of the Blue Turtles" AND "Ten Summoner's Tales" come to mind).....and nobody bats an eyelash, IMO.

I just think the Steve / Randy thing would've been so cool......

Thoughts?

My guess Nora would be that Journey was one of their cash cows then and they didn't want to do anything to compromise that. Just like when they held another FTLOSM single over his head to get him to do TBF.

Lazze-faire= If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Well, even with all the shit surrounding ROR, they were still a machine..a very good oiled machine.

Yeah, something like that. Journey was a known quantity. They made money. Street Talk made money too, but the music on Against The Wall was different, so they didn't want to take a chance.

Every night I watch that show, and 2 things become more clear.

1) I am starting to believe there are 3 yr old mensas with British accents in American families; talking dogs, fathers that are as bad as Peter.

2) I am adopting some personalities of all the characters...
