I've had to...the choices here in Beijing are pretty limited. I could go for mando-pop (which is like Teen Queens with a bit of extra sugar) or Westlife...but both of these offend my sensibilities in the extreme...

One of the saddest things is that on the occassional trip to KTV I find myself longing to sing The Final Countdown as it is the only english rock song available :roll:

I am incredibly drunk when I go to KTV by the way... :wink:

I'm going for an AOTI (Album of the In-Between.) It's neither good nor bad. That is Departure "Corporate Wheel." Biggest problem for me was the production. Guitars set too loud, while the vocals were not loud enough. The band basically accomplished their goal of being a Journey clone. But the production is what shys me away from this one.

They're last decent album IMO. Lots of great tracks on that one.

Sieges Even-The Art of Navigating By the Stars....brilliant comeback album...its taken a few listens to fully grasp but was well worth the effort

At the risk of being boring, may I suggest the new Bon Jovi album - Have a Nice Day.

I like it - there's a lot more up-tempo beat songs on it - and I think it will translate well into the live arena - have already bought tickets to Wembley in June next year!!!

Heard that Bon Jovi song today... great catchy tune! Is the rest of the album in the same style?

My AOTW is Praying Mantis - Forever In Time. Found it when I was looking for something lighter to play after listening to Opeth most of the week. Nice album this.

The single shows promise, but may hold back on buying the album. I'm just not a big fan of newer Bon Jovi.

I'm already setting an eye for newer releases as soon as my room is complete. it seems like every single nu-breed/mainstream band has released new albums all at the same time, so there'll be a lot of filtering through sound samples before I can make some purchases.

I'm going for a slight change-up on my AOTW. That goes to, strangely enough, a pop band. Before I mention the band, let me list my opinion. I feel that this band is one of the very very few standout 80's pop groups of their time. Some believed they'd revolutionize pop music...alas, it never happened. But on the plus side, since nobody copied their music, it makes them unique, something that is non-existent in the cookie-cutter world of pop.

That said, my AOTW goes to Men Without Hats "Pop Goes the World." Their early stuff was cheese, but this was a strong, underappreciated effort that borders more on AOR than pop. (with a little guitar, this could've been a breakout album.) Ian Anderson guests on one track.

Not my first choice as far as Euro bands are concerned. But they must be doing something right. They charted #18 here in the states.

This cd is really good 8) I´m a voice girl :wink: and enjoying every minute of this cd think it´s better than their other stuff.

I was kind of torn between two choices, After Forever's Invisible Circles or Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. After a lot of thinking I chose the latter, since even though the songs are good on the A.F. album, the whole idea of a girl doing the Opera thing (oops angelic vocals) and a guy that sounds like the mating call by a Wookiee is starting to become a little stale. In other songs the guy manages to sing, so stop burping your lyrics!

Jeff has got it all, from pop songs to free form jazz, plus he's got Phil Lynott! What more could you want!

Yeah, that is a great one indeed! Don't Talk To Strangers is for me the ultimate song on that album. It shows what an incredible singer he is, and is an incredible song as well. Even though it only lasts a couple of minutes, that song is epic!

Yeah you know its one of those ones that you can not listen to for a while.....I think it's been almost two years since I listened to the whole thing, and when you do, you remember why it's so great!

It was really ahead of it's time in lots of ways.....some of those riffs are fuckin' awesome.

I think that's a sign of the greatness of a record. If it still is able to make such an impact after not having heard it for a while, it shows that the songs are just plain excellent, as well as that it has stood the test of time really well!
Not many albums have that... I sometimes wonder which of the records I buy these days I still will enjoy as much in, say 25 years from now, and whether they are still capable to stand out in some way.

This weeks album of the week goes to Pink Floyd - The Division Bell...have been feeling pretty mellow this past week and this album captures it pretty well
