And btw...you'll all cream your pants to know that we've added Faith in the Heartland to our rotation.

Well, I for one am happy to hear that. I will be interested to hear what your listeners think.

I am curious though, why did it take several weeks to ADD this song? Is that normal? I know Journey was "going for adds" a while back but it seems to be very slow for them.

Angiekay wrote:You guys all spent the first part of this conversation bitching because radio stations don't play EVERYTHING like they used to. All different artists and genres and it's all the same songs. A JACK format plays EVERYTHING, exactly what you want and now you say it's the dj's. Please, make up your mind on what you want your story to be.

I enjoy listening to JACK. And the one here in Denver actually has a morning dj and a drive-time dj. My main problem with JACK is they are not much different than classic rock...you still need to be a HIT before they will play it. And only a HIT will be played from modern songs. The rest of the time they are primarily an 80's station. You can always tell when they get a new artist or song added to the playlist because you will hear it a lot for a while. JACK is still HEAVILY programmed. The more you listen it still becomes the 'same ole thing'.

My main point about DJs is that an 'all mix, all music' playlist is still not the answer to competing with iPods. So many people are listening to iPods and making their own genre-defying playlists. They already HAVE that. So radio that is programmed like that really gives them nothing different. That is why I think GOOD DJs are still a big part of the solution. The other big part would be the FREEDOM for the DJ to play what s/he wants at times.

I miss the radio that I was raised on. I realize that radio has had to adjust to the times, but that doesn't make it any easier to take. We still have some good morning shows here that play some good music, but all of the daytime fare is prerecorded and the nighttime fare is syndicated.

I would soooooo love to have another Dick Clark, Wolfman Jack, or Kasey Kasem to listen to. I just don't think that's ever going to happen again.(not to take anything away from you Angie)

Everything is big business; radio, medical care, the United States government.

It all sucks and what the people say makes no difference to any of them unless they have A LOT of money.

Wasn't it great PF? The countdowns, the critiques of the new stuff, the interviews, it'll never be the same.

We don't follow the "going for adds" crap. We add them when we see fit. Again...not fitting the "basic" radio mold here. Aside from that fact, my pd is really still not happy with Journey and their people.

You need to hear the 'jack' here. It's not offically a jack, but my friend Scott programs it on a station across town from us and runs along a jack line of programming. He is so deep and obsure, sometimes *I* have no idea what the song is. He is partial to deep cuts from 70's am radio. However, there are a LOT of train wrecks on that station.

OpeningAct and Deano - keep your issues OFF this site.

When my pd added it, I asked if it was Faith in The Heartland, and he said, 'Uh, yeah, I think that is the one." Maybe he really did mean A Place In Your Heart and he just had the titles confused.

Well, I just looked in our computer and Faith in The Heartland is the only new Journey song in there, so that must be the only one we are playing at the moment. The record companies have nothing to do with what we play because we usually don't get our cds from band's actual resprentatives. We have a different source that sends us new music, so we chose what goes on. Obviously we watch the trends, but also what we think will work for our station.
