I don't like that DSB is being attributed solely to Perry. BUT I don't have a problem with the SOX wanting Perry to be there because of it.

Sherrie, I think it is a little different for Journey since they are Journey songs. I don't see the need to announce Perry for Journey songs, but I do think Journey songs should be attributed as such.

Either way, it is all promo for the band.

However...let me say this again! The white sox did NOT invite JOURNEY...they invited STEVE PERRY! What does that say?

Again, HE IS THE AMBASSADOR of DSB!

It says, as I have said for over ten years, that without Journey, Steve Perry is nothing. He has no legacy outside of his time with Journey. They didn't point out "Somewhere There's Hope" or "You Better Wait" or whatever. They pointed to a Journey song...and, as always, Perry has to latch on to JOURNEY's legacy to prop HIMSELF up.

The FACT is that Journey is the legacy of many people - not just Perry. The public being ignorant of that fact, and Perry taking advantage of that ignorance, does not make it any less true.

1) I really didn't mean to attack anyone, I honestly think he looked like a fat chick in that picture. No hidden meaning - I honestly think that. Since he is an average weight male...that is interesting. That's it. In fact, I would go further and say he looks like a Fat chick in her 30's. He looks young and healthy...but not like himself at all. If I hadn't seen him at the WOF thing, I would think he had just changed...but this is a very odd picture.

2) Perry doesn't read these messages, or else I would have tried to be a little nicer. Nothing personal.

3) FYI - I am not skinny myself...5-11 215....and it aint all muscles.

4) Thank you for your response ohsherrie. That is what I was looking for....Perryheads do have unconditional love for him. The Journey fans on THIS board do not have unconditional love for Journey. And I too prefer an overweight look versus a skinny look. Skinny looks unhealthy IMO.

5) There is a certain someone who is an active poster on here who said Schon was fat on the 2001 DVD. Funny, I didn't read anything about "looks good for his age" when he was said to be fat?

Dave and Monker,

The legacy that most of the general public knows as Journey music is built on Perry's voice. It doesn't matter to most of those people who wrote the songs or played the instruments. It's Steve's extraordinary voice that is associated with the memories and meaning behind those songs for those people. They made great music and memories for all of us together, but they're not together now. The tours that people are enjoying now wouldn't exist without the legacy of the Perry years. The band owes their current livelihood to him, but they're trying to make the public forget that. He's not out there trying to take that legacy away from them, but you expect him to thank them because that ball team invited him to their game? That really doesn't make much sense to me, but then we'll never see eye to eye on much of anything regarding Journey. :)

Eric,

We'll my husband is a couple inches taller than you but weighs about the same, so yeah, I think a little weight is just fine. :D I wasn't going to mention Neal's appearance, but since you did I'll comment on it by way of a comparison. I've never heard any of you guys saying anything bad about how he looks and I don't think he's aged nearly as well as Steve has. Of course I've never thought he was attractive, but he's even less so now, and yes he's overweight too. But hey, we're all doing the best we can with what they years have given us.

That is not what I was saying. I simply wish the JOURNALISTS would properly acknowledge that DSB is a JOURNEY song. Like I said, I have no issue with the SOX looking for Perry. I understand that recognition. I am not one of the people who say the SOX should have gotten Joureny instead of Perry. I am fine with "the connection". But reporters are supposed to be factual. I am not even asking them to recognize that Journey continues without Perry (in this case). I simply want them to be accurate about the song.

I agree. Neal's smile is starting to look like the Joker from Batman! He is heavy but it seems to be more like "stocky". He looks like a tonka toy. But the biker look he favors suits his shape.

I see where you're coming from Dave. I hadn't really paid any attention to what the press was saying about the song one way or another. I was just focused on whether Steve would show up.

Neal was chunky for a while there, as witnessed on the 2001 dvd, but I think he looks just fine now. Electric guitars are heavy and he lugs that thing on stage for 2hours + with ease!
I bet he can kick both ur asses.

Oh come on Monker, did perry ask these players to name DSB as their theme song and then also beg for an invite to the game?? GIVE IT UP on this one Man! You have more credibility than that

That still has nothing to do with Journalists properly crediting the song to Journey. I already said I have NO PROBLEM with Perry being the receipient of this attention. I understand the singer being the focal point and the representative of a song. Journalists are supposed to be factual, that's all. Why is this so hard to understand?

I was listening to ESPN rad. the other day and Dan patrick had Brad Ausmus on talking about the Sox' adoption of DSB and Patrick's, typical of the mainstream media, whole slant towards the band was very patronizing and condescinding. Ausmus paid them good respect though, said he listened to GR Hts and Essentials all the time....Patrick was trying to bait Ausmus into thaking a cheap shot at the band and Sox, Ausmus woudn't bite. Then Patrick played a recording of someone who supposedly left a message (this may have been dramtized) saying how great the band is and that they're much more of a rock than ballad band and then said Neal Schon would kick patrick's ass. Deano, did you call DP?

Don't worry, Sherrie.
It was typically unflattering to our guys as predictable. Mean spirited crap from a guy who probably could not name a song other than OA or DSB.

I caught part of an interview with Steve P. He said he was having a ball and would love to go Houston.

I guess we'll have to see.

In that case I'm glad I missed it. It sounds it may have been the kind of crap that you might hear on Fox. I really hate it that people say shit like that. It makes me wonder what they think is good music.

He's aged as a lot better than most of his contemporaries. Lovin' the hair.

I was going to stay out of this, because it doesn't really matter to me. You may be right that it is just the clothes, or the picture, but my first thought was not complimentary about his appearance. My 2nd thought was that he indeed is growing his hair back out some...I found that amusing because at the first hint that his hair was getting longer, many believed this was a sign that he was gearing up for a comeback. The absurdity is that makes him sound "Samson"-like, as if he can't sing without his hair long!

I thought I would bring this back up because I just ran into these two posts at BT that exemplify my point:

jillybean wrote:I can't explain this - but my heart is beating so fast seeing this photo. His hair is growing out! It's a sign! That and the fact that he is getting out in public more - I think the WOF in January first got his goose-bumps up and he's planning a - dare I say it - new tour??? I think he's got the bug! I really do! His hair is so much longer than in Jan. - and he always seems to grow it out again before time to go on the road!!!!
Oh Steve, to hear you again would be heaven.

Please.

Perry looked like a fat eskimo chick that just crawled out of Saddam's mudhole and went straight to Target for some 2 dollar made in Taiwan clothes...

THAT is what he looked like.
