Guitar Wars! Who Would You Like To See Neal Go Up Against???

Postby Greg » Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:46 pm

Enough about Perry for now. I thought of this today. Who would you like to see Neal go up against in an old fashioned guitar showdown? I think Schon is severely under-appreciated and could hold his own against some of the finest guitar "gods" in rock music. I'd love to hear Neal go up against guys like George Lynch, Eddie Van Halen, or Joe Satriani (I'm sure that's misspelled, LOL!)

I believe Schon is better than those guys for at least the reason that he can either rock it out to the point of completely shreddin' his guitar OR his guitar playing can be smooth and soulfull. What do you guys think?

Well Satriani is a completely different style to Neals. That's why his initial inclusion into Planet Us was so appealing to me. Personally, I'd like to see Neal go up against Santana in a guitar face-off.

Is there any bad blood between Schon and Santana nowadays? Man, I wished Planet Us had happened!

Me too.

The inclusion of Hagar, Satriani and that dude from VH (who was it? Anthony?) would've ensured the group the status of "super band" that Neal had always envisioned. Soto is largely an unknown in the states, however, he is one talented dude and him and Neal seemed to have genuinely struck a fruitful writing relationship together (sadly something I don't see all that prevalent in current day Journey).

Schon, Lukather and Van Halen as a power trio :)

Billy Sheehan on bass, Virgil Donati on drums.

Good idea for a face-off. Very similar playing styles.

The quintessential guitar player of yesterday (Schon), vs. The quintessential guitar player of today, Kenny Wayne Sheperd. He is easily the most talented IMO..

Neal is as great a guitar player that I have ever seen/heard.
As underrated as he is though, I think Alex Lifeson of RUSH is even moreso...IMO.
Good topic...guitar wars are always fun stuff!!!!

Santana is good at what he does but is one dimensional. And Neal even smokes him at that, the fiery/melodic latin thing. It is clear that Carlos influenced Neal.
Neal can shred with the best but the thing that will always set him apart is the beautiful melody "singing" he does on the guitar.

Hey, great idea! There needs to be an album of nothing but instrumental songs by all of these guys. A song or two from each guy on one album, with the last song having all the guys on one song blending each other's style together.

Andrew...you got connections...see what you can do!
