Has anyone ever heard Eruption live????

Hi Van Halen fans,

Has anyone heard the song, "Eruption" live? I heard Van Halen use to play it during their 1978/1979 tours?

Actually I meant the 98 tour, which I saw......I think he has played bits and pieces of it since about 1983 because it has been heard about 20,000,000 times by all and sundry and everyone's brother/cousin/friend/sister/next door neighbour can 'just about' play it!!!

Hell, even Neal Schon could probably play it!!!

I saw them in Worcester, MA, USA. Great show.

I have never heard the song live, and I have been looking on eBay for a live version of the song.

For clarification, I meant to ask how come this great song isn't played live in full because the song would be a great crowd pleasure at any spot in the concert.

Let's set the record straight on this Eruption thing. Edward, for at least the last twenty years, has NEVER performed it straight up note for note exactly like it is on the record in concert. By that , I mean:
opening drum bit by ALex
power chord
opening licks
more brief accompaniment by alex
alex fades out as Eddie continues to wail
Ed does that violin exercise arpeggio lick in the high register, then lowers the vibrato bar for the growl
SILIENCE
Eddie plays the rapid fird part followed by descending lick , followed by two hand tapping followd by another low growl with the Tremelo bar.

You will not find it EXACTLY like that on any bootleg. In fact on the album's original recording , some parts were improvised. I don't think Edward looks at it as a rigidly structured piece the way most of you may. We all have heard the Van Halen album 10,000 times so we can all practically sing along with every note.. But, eddie looks at it more as a framework in which he can improvise.. When you see a VH show , alex does the short opening drum bit and then Eddie plays parts that are similiar , but not identical to the record. Then he proceeds to play all the ohter unaccopmiendd bits form VH albums on guitar.. He plays Cathedral, sometiems the intro to MEan Street, 316 and then he plays the tow hadn tapping section to Spanish Fly and then HE culminates with the final two hand tapping section of Eruption..That is usually the basic structure of his solo spot in concert . To be honest, I find it BOOOOOOOOOOORING..I'd rather hear him do something a little more free form. I am more inteerested in the solos he takes in the songs during the show cause he actually takes more chances there and improvises a bit , but whenever I go to a VH concert or watch a concert video bootleg , when it comes solo spot time I know exactly what I am going to hear already so I think it is dull. He is a great guitarist . He should write a brand new instrumental piece each year for the tours....

I saw Van Halen live at the old Charlotte Coliseum way back in 84 which I will never forget during my youth & Eddie played his signature tune Eruption in all its glory.

Are you sure he played Peavey's on this last tour? I'm asking because by then he had already severed ties with Peavy, and was endorsed by Charvel for his "art series" guitars.

Then again, maybe that's why he smashed it!!!!
