Great tune! I don't know if you'd consider Patiently and obsure tune, but it's one of my favorites as well.artthou wrote:City of the Angels is brilliant.

And I've always loved Lay it Down and Rubicon...I think they're both VERY underrated.
It was great hearing Dead or Alive at Foxwoods in 2003...another great tune, and even better live!!!!NealIsGod wrote:OpeningAct wrote:Great tune! I don't know if you'd consider Patiently and obsure tune, but it's one of my favorites as well.artthou wrote:City of the Angels is brilliant.

Neal shreds on Lay it Down. Side 2 of ESC4P3 is incredible.

I have to say, if you are going to compare different aspects of Journey, that one of the biggest changes Journey went through was the lyrical content of the songs when Cain replaced Rolie. Jonathan said that what he wanted to bring to the band was songs about the fans, which is absolutely clear in songs like DSB, Escape, etc etc.....

This is exactly why I always point to Jon's arrival as the catalyst for Journey's true success. Perry did a helluva a lot for Journey, but it was Cain that put them over the top!

I disagree, Dave. He'd still be doing it if this were the case.

I adore Rubicon.
Lay it Down is decent, as well.

If it wasn't Jonathan Cain's inclusion that made the band soar to the top, then what, in your esteemed opinion, was it?

It was already soaring when Gregg left. He said that he was crazy to leave at that time. Come on! Bad English, The Babys, Now! Cain's tinkly piano took Journey down a different path and no matter if it was Gregg or Cain, Perry's voice would have given Journey a signiture sound and I still believe that with Gregg, it would have made a lot more people happy.

I can agree with what you are saying...except Journey was more likely cruising at a low altitude until Jon entered. THEN Journey "soared". Jon's addition to the Baby's resulted in some hit singles. Bad English did well as well...even though their #1 song was not written by anyone within the band. You are missing the point if you are only pointing at his piano playing. HOWEVER, all that being said, I would prefer Gregg to Jon ANYDAY!
