Did someone mention Phil Collins recently?

Why is THIS guy being talked about on THIS board? No offence artthou, but who gives a crap what Phil Collins does? He should be at some Israeli school cutting out little angels or some shit.

He doesn't even remotely fit in to "rock", much less so than even Perry does/did. Collins might be the biggest soft-ass of all time. Don't get me wrong, I love a good ballad, but I defy anyone here to admit they listen to the entire song, "One more Night" and admit that the song moved them. I can openly say Faithfully gives me the chills almost everytime(and yes, even with Augeri singing it), but Collins should go back to his bakery and make cupcakes and stay the hell away from music..

Let the Styx people post articles about old, gay singers....This is Journey Board. We are above that.

Agreed. Former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel can be cool at times. Last album was a real downer though.

Came out in '02. It was called "UP". Very morose. Good from a lyrical and musical stand point, but not something I'd like to revisit all that often. Everything was so damned deppressing.

I would definitely put Phil Collins in pop territory. I like ballads as well, but I think comparing One More Night to Faithfully just doesn't compare. I'd take Faithfully.

Oh absolutely Sadie, there's no comparison between Phil Collins and Journey. I just like the way Phil Collins sounds, especially in the old Miami Vice stuff.

Because there is a veiled implication that if Phil can be big enough to reunite Genesis (including Peter) than maybe Journey can reunite with Perry.

But we all know that just ain't gonna happen!

No comparison. But I enjoy Genesis, and some of Phil's solo work as well. It's just different than Journey...

I enjoy Collins. He has some good Pop-rock songs for sure.

My favorites are: Easy Lover, Something Happened on the Way to Heaven, Don't lose my number, Land of Confusion

This would be great.
I'll take it with or w/out Pete but I think Pete'll do it. The coin in play will be too great to resist.

To me, Collins and Elton John are two formerly great musicians who have not gotten better with age. I love their early stuff, but once the mid-80's hit they both started putting out crap. Add Rod Stewart to this mix.

Very true. Although, I guess they managed to stay successful. And, although I don't like their change in direction, I think they are all pretty good at it. Well, not Rod. He is doing nothing "new". But atleast the other two continue to make new music.

Stewart is selling these Songbook records like CRAZY. Every one is selling more than the last. How EASY must it be to record those, too? Laughing all the way to the bank.

I didn't asy he wasn't smart...but he is not being very creative. At least Phil and Elton are still creating.

Not quibbling with you, Dave just expounding upon the Rod mention. I also happen to be happy for Rod's renaissance and enjoy Vol III very much. Borrowed it off my parents. I'm stoked over the Genesis thing, too.

Did you catch GW on the Family Guy last night? He reported to work 17 years late for the Vietnam War.. Then the desk man offers W some "blow." Too Funny.

I know you had to be thinking of me...

I don't know if he would come back or not. His music is so drasically different then what Genesis became after he left. He is also said to be in the works with a new album right now. He drags his feet on new albums as it is, I don't know if he would take time out from that right now to hook back up with Genesis, although it would be cool.

You said a mouthfull there. gabriel's new release requency makes Journey look prolific. Same with Phil now, too.

This topic (Genesis), just came up on the Stern show. They laughed their asses off, mocking Susudio and Abacab...

Then they pointed out other bands, and when Journey came up, they all made fun of Perry, and commented last week how he sounded like Wolfman Jack..

Yeah Stern hates Perry's guts. Back when Stern was starting out in radio, he was doing some music-press thingy, and encountered Steve Perry. Perry with girl in tow began openly mocking Stern's looks. Stern never forgot that and frequently mentions it on the air. One time I believe he stated "I'm glad that prick is gone" or something to that extent.

Who is Steve perry to mock anothers looks? He is one ugly person.
