CRANKED IT LOUD

Yes, finally, after over 2 1/2 months, moving over 460 miles away, I got my stereo hooked up today!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been listen to my computer, car stereo, or walk-man for the past few weeks. But hooked everything up and the first and only cd I put in tonight and cranked up. GENERATIONS!!! I went and bought the original today, I lost the copy I had in the move. DID IT SOUND GOOD!!!!!!!!! My wife and kids were in there dancing and acting silly. This is one FABTASTIC CD. Think I'm going to crank it up again-ERIC

Not to rain on your parade(bad analogy though), but this CD sounds worse when turned up loud. Many have said that on here. This is the worst recorded CD I have heard, period. There is a constant hissing on the Vox mic it seems. Monker, NC, help me out here..

Nah...I'm not buying it...I vividly recall BLARING "FITHL" in my car at "later 60's era Beatle's recording standards" volume level and thoroughly enjoying the effect.

I don't hear problems at all, even when played earsplittingly loud, which is pretty much always the case when I am playing this band, which is also pretty much always the case.

What Rock and Monker say, I hear with Arrival and Red13 to some extent, but praps with 13 it was on purpose. At any rate there's little attrition on my enjoyment of either record as a result.

Umm...because they got it right (or close enough) the first time....

Also, just my .02 opinion here ...but Generations sounds better than Arrival...may be less the production values and more the amount of instrumentation involved (i.e. strings, etc) .....For me though, if the drums and bass aren't tracked right (i.e. too much digital over-processing), it ends up sounding like "shite" in my jeep....Anyone recall (from interviews or other) how they recorded Generations? (i.e. all pro-tools? some stuff originally on analog/24 track) I think they got the "rock band instruments" recording down pretty good with Generations.

A good friend of mine, as a recording studio (very small) in his home down in Biloxi. I meet the lead singer of the group Biloxi (he got Abita Water), and he gave me some of his old studio music programs, which in turn I keep and gave to my friend. My friend said digital recordings lack the warm of analog. I watched him record, and seen him use this stuff. One thing he has complained about is the drums. But he used a drum machine, and played all the instruments. But the drums did lack a BIG sound. So maybe even the pro's have a problem with this.
IMO you can do a lot with digital, but it really does lack a warm feeling about it.-ERIC

Can't help ya dude. Generations sound quality maddeningly fluctuates dependent upon the system I play it in. Sounds best on my discman.

Andrew is sniffing glue if he doesn't think Room Service is the melodic CD of the year.

Just had to jump in here with info regarding digital recording and "warm" overall/drum sound:

We were at our studio earlier today to work on the CD title track; it was HEAVY on drums, and (ironically enough) I wanted it to have an "auto-pilot"/"drum-machine" type feel.

The whole thing was done via computer/digital technology.....and let me tell you - Mark's drumming has ALL of the different variances of tone and volume that analog can give you....I was very happy with the final product.

So, maybe it was the fact that your friend used a drum machine to begin with; I really don't know....but wanted to tell you this as an "FYI".

To be honest with you, I always associated LPs with "pops and scratches", NOT warmth! LOL

Some will say that the "organic" quality of those 2 things is what made it seem "human" and not machine-sterile....it's a tough call for me....IMO, if the feeling is there in the playing, it should translate - be it cassette, LP, or CD.
