I know I'll be attacked for saying it, but I just can't get into the new lead singer's voice as much. I'm not saying he's bad, but it's not a voice that stands out as unusually great or one I enjoy listening to all that much after a couple of listens. However, I think the Journey musicans are incredibly gifted and talented. I do like "A Better Life" but I feel it is lacking something.(maybe more emotion?) When I listen to the new Journey, I do try to see them as a new band, so I enjoy the music (mostly). I know I'll be attacked for this- sorry if i offended.

This makes perfect sense to me. Me, Me, Me, all the time.

No, no, no....sorry, but IMO that's incorrect.
As a lead vocalist myself, I can understand what he meant by "to make it mine":
To crib and quote from above:
"SP: He would make a suggestion and I would say that I would try to sing it but thenI would not be able to believe it, or own it for myself, so I would have to throw in a couple of changes or make additions to it to make it mine.""
On our CD, I'm singing my husband's words (except for the titile track, which I wrote). I had to make a TON of changes in words & melodic structure so I would be able to convey the meaning and emotion properly.
If you don't believe it yourself, how can you possibly convey it to others?

Maybe it's because they weren't songwriters? Perhaps because they didn't write themselves they didn't feel the need to express their own emotions in the lyrics of a song, they just adapted to what others wrote. Just a possibility.

According to the bios that I've read he finished high school and started in a college but dropped out to pursue a music career.

Doesn't hurt my feelings, it really doesn't matter, the results are the same. I'm surprised more by your going to school in Hanford.

Thanks Suite, that pretty much sums it up.

When I get bored I love to "google" and find out information. I like Journey's music, but I never knew "behind the band" or all this information. I'm learning something new everyday
