I've been listening to Sentenced's Funeral Album. I like it a lot. I haven't heard HIM's Dark Light yet Snakey but I'm sure I'll like it when I do. :D

The pop moment came and went, now I'm back to reality. My AOTW is a bit more reasonable...Masterplan "S/T." I haven't quite warmed up to the debut as much as I have to Areonautics, but it's still a pretty solid effort.

ATOW is "Dragon Attack, A Tribute to Queen". Some of the biggest names plays on this cd, e.g. LaBrie, E.Lee, Lemmy, and Hughes.

Although I've already posted my AOTW for this week, my copy of Stream of Passion "Embrace the Storm" came in today. Listening to it as I speak. Considering that it's been an absolutely weak year for female rock (unless you include reissues) I don't think this title will have much of a problem taking my 2005 Female Album of the Year.

Well, maybe. Gotta spin it a few more times. Has anyone heard the new Lullacry yet?

'Stream of passion'???? Gee, why didn't they just call themselves 'Golden shower'??

What do you think was the best recent year for female fronted rock Jonny?

Why Arjen didn't just call it a follow-up to Ambeon? If you've heard Ambeon, SoP isn't that far off.

What do you think was the best recent year for female fronted rock Jonny?

That's the thing though. There hasn't been a solid year for female rock. But every year, there's at least one or two albums that stand out on top.

As far as quantity of titles go, 2004 is the winner, hands-down.

My favorites by year:

1999: Lana Lane "Queen of the Ocean"
2000: Alyson Avenue "Prescence of Mind"
2001: Ambeon "Fate of a Dreamer"
2002: Nightwish "Century Child"
2003: TIE: Evanescence "Fallen" & Lullacry "Crucify My Heart" (for awhile, Evanescence was the clear winner just on sales alone. But that was before I heard Lullacry for the first time.)
2004: Within Temptation "The Silent Force"
2005: could fall on either Stream of Passion "Embrace the Storm" or Broke N Blue "The Waiting."

After repeated listens, I noticed a serious lack of keyboards in the Stream of Passion release. There's regular piano. There's real strings, violins, and cellos...but no electronic keyboards.

As Arjen mentions in the insert:

"No synthesizers, no samples, no thanks to Gjalt."

I hope he meant that in extreme disappointment and disgust. I certainly would of.

Other than that, it's pretty good. Just not good enough for female album of the year.

My AOTW goes to Starbreaker "S/T"

Originally would've placed Stream of Passion, but let's face it, it's got no synths. :(

You mean it would be better if the violins came out of the synth? :?

My AOTW is Deep Purple - Rapture Of The Deep. I discovered last night it's a great record to accompany a couple of drinks... well, more than a couple actually!!! Yep, it was very 'gezellig' again after band practice! 8)

This week my AOTW is Signs of Life by Poets of the Fall. A bit softer than stuff I usually listen too, but very enjoyable.

No, just a few sound samples would've been better than nothing at all.

OK - this week my AOTW is James LaBrie - Elements of Persuasion.

A little more variety and a few different flavours than his day job, all in all a pleasant surprise.

dare I say it, but I have 'Generations' on the way!

My AOTW is Vicious Rumors - Digital Dictator. I heard a song from them during the break at the concert the other week, thought it was time to dust this one off!

This is also my AOTW.....haven't listened to it in a few months but its been the only cd in the car this week....some sick guitar playing and some sick keyboard playing that sounds like guitar playing.

This past week as been the first time I've been able to really listen to some cds in a long while, and not be stuck with just what my bro will let me listen to.

I'm currently cleaning out my collection, and discovered some forgotten gems, such as the entire Artension library (I've said it before. Vitalij Kuprij is a keyboard GOD!)

But my AOTW will go to After Forever "Remagine." This is a BIG step forward in their sound. More keyboards, less growling, an overall huge improvement over Invisible Circles. But the band may still get my Bonehead of the Year for using Copy Protection.

My AOTW goes to Van Halen - Best of Both Worlds...the only VH CD I have found in Beijing.

I am slowly but surely showing some of the locals that music can have some balls to it...the most popular song in Beijing in the 9 months I have been here has been Michael Learns to Rock - Take Me To Your Heart....this goes for both boys and girls...fucking disgraceful!!!

Am off to see an AC/DC cover band this Wednesday night....AC/DC Chinese style should be a good laugh
