Did anyone hear "Off The Record"

Postby jrnyman28 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 3:18 pm

The show was tonight. From what I have read, Perry was asked about performing again and he gave a response that had to do with his voice not being in shape. Apparantly someone told him that Perry's voice at half it's best is still better than most. But Perry apparantly would not give any "definite" answers.

Did anyone here listen to the show, can you transcribe the interview?

I can't get it here but I hope someone transcribed it. Perryville and USPFC are both pretty good about doing these things.

I heard it. I wonder whether that interview was given before or after the baseball thing, since he kind of sang for that. As for ever singing again publicly Mr. P seemed to be saying he didn't want to sing publicly (he sings in his shower and his car he said) because his standards are so high and he is a perfectionist. So he was basically saying he can't sing like he used to so he wasn't singing. Although, I am hoping his recent baseball experience showed him that he need not be perfect--just get up there and sing.

If he knows about some of the terrible things that have been said about his appearances surrounding the Series I'm sure it would make him say "to hell with this".

If he wants to try to get his voice back into decent shape and record some new music, EVERYONE in this forum would be very happy. If we didn't care, we wouldn't be hard on him sometimes.

Actually, if you want to take him at his word, he was saying that his opinion is the one that mattered to him--not anyone else's. I'm sure he knows how he sounds and what he is capable of. I really doubt he would decide to sing or not because of what a few people said on some message board. He was saying it is all about his own standards, not anyone else's.

LAWoman,

I heard it too, and would you agree he was basically in "coated words," that he isn't capable anylonger? That's what I got out of it. I feel for him. Must be tough.

Yes, I listened to the interview, it was a fun interview! I'd say more about it, but I'd probaly be critizised for whatever information I shared about the interview.

I don't think he said that exactly. What I heard from his words is that he isn't up to his own standards. That doesn't mean he isn't capable, in fact, the friend he was talking about was telling Perry that on his worst day Perry is better than most others.

None of that really explains why he isn't involved in writing or producing other people. You'd think he'd still want to be involved in the industry--but it's his life. I've stopped trying to figure him out. He seems to be doing what he wants to do.

Which is nada.

Listen, the guy just basically said he doesn't want to sing, and the spin goes on. What a waste of space.

This mean comment above is the reason why I would NOT share any part of the interview with Steve & Uncle Joe here.

Thanks, OS. I like this part:

JB: You got any feedback from any of the other band members?

SP: Yeah, they actually got off their particular tour, and Neal went into the office with Ross, and got to watch the entire show with all the special footage, bonus footage, we have interviews and the slide show I assembled, and they liked it a lot. I understand Neal was moved.

I thought that was pretty good too.

Do you have any idea what that Dave Navarro thing they were talking about is?

Great interview.
Many, many good parts.
Especially how he vowed to fight Sony to the death over retaining Neal's solo on Whose Crying Now.

No, but Navarro would be a weird partner for Perry. Steve seems to have the itch to record and play onstage again, doesn't he? It seems like he just doesn't know exactly what to do.

I am likening Perry to Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky....He wants to go out on top, and not be struggling like Willie Mays was..stumbling around, dropping fly balls. I respect perry for this, if this in fact what he is doing. The urge to be back out there is a demon for him...It is something he truly desires, but that perfectionist soul of his is fighting that urge.

Well at least you are capable of having a rational conversation before six o'clock; after that it's letting loose of the hounds. And thank you for your gracious note. It was much appreciated.

I meant it Marabelle, and I AM sorry for the fat hag thing..sometimes my creative juices run wild, and my fingers forget to go back and EDIT the edit button. I am sorry.

That damned Sideways movie. Ever since i have seen it, I think I am Miles on odd numbered days.

I know that Dave Navarro organizes this "Camp Freddy" thing in Vegas. I know this year that Jani Lane got a last minute call to be there so maybe he filled the spot reserved for Perry.... But I do not specifically know what Camp Freddy supports. It seems to be some sort of charity thing but I do not know what for. I think I will drop Jani a line and ask.

Not a friend, but I have been in contact with him in the past. He does respond to questions when asked so I might as well give him a shout.

To be fair, Dave Navarro is a trippy dude.

He was on Stern show and played "Lord of the anal ringtoss." He had to hold the pole on which the rings are tossed onto, in his, ahem...figure it out...

Yeah, he really did hold it in there....

Here's what I found on "Camp Freddy":

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/151212 ... lines=true

Pink, actress Gina Gershon, Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland and former Warrant singer Jani Lane helped kick out the jams with Dave Navarro's cover band, Camp Freddy, during a gig at the Empire Ballroom in Las Vegas on Saturday. Gershon joined the band for covers of the Pretenders' "Brass in Pocket" and David Bowie's "Queen Bitch" while Pink grabbed the mic for Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." Lane handled Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" and Alice in Chains' "Man in the Box," and Weiland crooned during covers of his old band Stone Temple Pilots' "Crackerman" and the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues." ... Linkin Park's Chester Bennington has a cover band of his own: Bucket of Weenies. The group, which also features Orgy's Ryan Shuck, Bleeders' Mike Rouse, TSOL's Mike "Cheez" Brown and Grey Daze's Sean Dowdell, will make its live Los Angeles debut Tuesday night (October 25) at the Hollywood Avalon. Look for the band to put its own spin on the Cure's "Boys Don't Cry," Hanoi Rocks' "Beer and a Cigarette" and Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." ...

Also this:

Navarro was also working with Camp Freddy. Camp Freddy is a large rock jam comprised of rock musicians (Matt Sorum, Donovan Leitch, Billy Morrison, and Dave Navarro, and recent addition Chris Chaney). They played select shows throughout 2003-2004, with the likes of Ron Wood, Steven Tyler, and many other talented musicians.
