If this is NOT the best musicianship you have EVER heard, then fuck my as and call me a bitch. Ok, that was a bit harsh(A little Terreance and Phillip of South Park fame for you.)...but, you have to admit,,,,,,,,,

My God, Perry sounds ungodly...BUT so do the bass lines and drum fills...strangely, Neal is the one who doesn't sound front and centre....

I DO hope this goes 3x times platinum....

Steve Perry---dude, it's ok to not sound like this EVER again...really, it's ok...

I swear I sprained my finger air drumming so fast in the car...God, I am embarrassed.....

I have a feeling that I probably won't get my copy in until after Thanksgiving. I really hope I'm wrong about that though! Would love to get it in the day before so I can watch the dvd all day on turkey day and the next day, since I'm off from work.

I've been watching the Journey concert from 2001 and the Greatest Hits videos to prepare myself for the release.

I thought me, you and Deano hashed this thing out, you know about the Neal vintage avatar and all. To me, it's tantamount to defacing the Rocky statue in front of the Spectrum.

The video rocks. Is that not the least hot "hot" chick in music video history?

I think the bumblebee girl in the Blind Melon video is less hot. Slightly.

Have to agree with you on that one! Actually, Seperate Ways is the song that really got me started with Journey. I think Frontiers was the first album I bought from Journey, then I went back and got the earlier stuff. What can I say, I was only like 8 years old when Frontiers came out...LOL!!

I thought After The Fall was a pretty good video from that album. I remember seeing Chain Reaction as well. Wonder why that video didn't make it to the Greatest Hits videos?

I hated the Chain Reaction and Separate Ways videos, but the "Beavis and Butthead" and "Pop-up Video" things sort of made SW a classic what not to do type of thing. I thought After the Fall was pretty good.

In one interview Neal said that girl in SW looked like a pekingese dog. :lol:

Great CD, in general. But I thought that was just my bias because I like the guitar prominent. Does anyone think the mix is a little heavy on the vocals? I don't mind so much if it is lead vocals that are heavy, but even the backing vocals seem a little heavy in the mix.

No, and in fact, most Journey fans wouldn't want it any other way.
HOWEVER, if it comes at the expense of something equally vital (say, Neal's guitar) then we have a problem.

I would hope Perry would be going for a good mix. I don't see the point of having backing vocals overpowering the guitar, for example. In that fan asylum thing, Perry was talking something about turning off the dolby (for the DVD at least) to get the best sound and there was supposed to be some sticker warning to do that. I don't have any sticker. Maybe that same thing applies to the CD as well, but I don't seem to have a way to turn off the dolby in my car which is where I have mainly listened to it, so maybe that is the problem.

I don't think Perry was talking about turning off the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix - Why would they have gone to all the trouble to mix it in 5.1 if that's what he meant?

What he meant was that some stereo recievers have Dolby Noise Reduction or Compression either as an option or built in. This greatly reduces the fidelity and dynamics of the performance. That's what Perry meant by "turning off the Dolby."

Here's what he said, but I don't see any way of doing that on my DVD set-up.

"oh, and by the way, for the best fidelity please make sure to go into your DVD menu and turn the Dolby compression to – OFF. For some reason, the Dolby Corporation seems to think that all DVDs should be running Dolby automatically. This is a problem for a non-Dolby live concert like this as it was for Bruce Springsteen's “Live In Madison Square Garden.” That is why there was a warning sicker on his DVD and there will be a sticker on this one, too asking you to turn your Dolby off.
