Err...some songwriting 101 ( If I am wrong, someone please correct ) :
1. As far as sequence is concerned, there is no hard and fast rule about the credits. The common misconceptions are :
- A/B/C whereby A writes the lyrics, B & C writes the music and vice-versa.
- A/B/C whereby ABC all write the lyrics and band written music.
- A/B/C whereby A writes say, 80%, B 10%, C 10% and band writes the music.
( I could go on and on and on....)
The above are all misconceptions. They are not true. Credits are given to the ones responsible for the conception of the song.
But then, there was this keyboardist ( I forget his name) from a band ( also forgot the name ) that made the hit "Whiter Shade of Pale"....he was the one who apparently came up with the haunting tune that starts off the song and he was not credited at all..! ( For info, ALL versions of WSOP ( Eurythmics, Micheal Bolton, to name a few ) after the original had this tune in all of them )
Probably because it was waaay back in the day ( again, cant remember the &^%$ year...! ), the band and the keyboard player just never made a big deal of it.
But if it were to happen today, the keyboardist has the right to want his name included in the credits and the band would also rightly do that as well.
I also heard about an Eagle member claiming that HC was his tune mostly and DH and GF just took a ride on it. Big lawsuit..or something like that...
Your comments are welcome....
Cheers.
