All That Really Matters

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Wed Nov 30, 2005 4:06 pm

Maybe it's just me, but this song has gotten better each time I revisit it in the box sex. Sure, Jon's vocals are patchy but it's still a solid tune. Would've fit nicely amongst the bizarro song pairing of Frontiers and Rubicon. Has the same trippy vibe, I think.

NC, why don't you throw in Baby I'm Leavin' You...for a reaction? I could write a term paper on how NOT to write or sing a song..THAT song is the biggest piece of shit except for Mr Roboto, which hands down is THE biggest piece of shit ever written.

Love the tune. It DEFINATELY would've found open spaces on side 2 of Frontiers. Very Rubicony, Frontiersy. Put Perry on vox and it made the record (though, maybe not as good a song). To me, one of Schon's underrated moments, too. yet another reason why if I found one of my Time discs scratched, I'd be at the record store buying another copy in 3 minutes.

Acutally the guitar might be my favorite of the Frontiers sessions. The ending, the "WWWWooooooooWWOOOOooooo Rip(ripripripriprip) Neal kicks my ass again.

Finally, someone else who actually *gets* it. Woo-Hoo.
Thanks Joe.

I didn't expect any less from you.
You probably skipped over the track the instant you discovered it wasn't Perry singing lead.

Every time I'm making a new mix ATRM makes the cut. not just the cut, the SHORT list. For those that are unawares the song was the band absent Perry getting together and helping Cain work through relationiship troubles.....

ATRM is another toad on the road, imo. Flat and lifeless.

Like I wrote! Flat and lifeless and yes, it would no doubt have been a hit with Perry singing it. He would have given it some feeling and range, which is lacking. The lyrics are not always a factor. The lyrics to "Somethin To Hide" are mundane at best but his voice is outstanding. Like many have said,"He could sing the phonebook.

Yeah, you are right. And all of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Who songs are flat and lifeless. Perry could have injected much-needed life into those songs as well.

Their songs, for the most part, didn't need any life injected. Any song that Cain sings does.

Well, I am not going to argue that Cain is a great singer, but Perry is not a panacea for every song that features an average singer, either.

Had to refresh my memory and dig this song out.

I am with Deano on this one. Sounds like a cheesy '80's movie song.

No WAY. It's not a toad in the road like I stand alone or something like that.

I could give a RIP about the vox except that it woulda been worse with Pack's backup singer doing lead.

You don't know this to be a fact. You can't state it unless you know this to be a fact. It's not even an educated guess. You think that Arrival and Generations are good music so in my estimation, you have a tin ear.

Bill Graham performance.
Skipping the Herbie roast.
Refusing to tour or even sing live once on TV in support for TBF.
Not singing at the Bammies.
Cutting FTLOSM tour short.
His recent Chicago Sox performance.

How much more proof do u need lady?

None of the above is proof. It's circumstantial, supposition and speculation. No proof there in my book.

I bet, no, I know that at this time in his life, his voice is as it should be and more wonderful than ever, in whatever key he finds it necessary to perform in. Many who have been in touch with him have said as much and I'll take their word over someone who thinks that Journey today is better than Classic Journey, anyday.

How is it wrong? Tell me why Perry was not a part of this? He never subscribed to the "band=family" thing, he admitted that. This is just evidence of it. It is sad that Perry was not there for his songwriting partner. After all, look at the bonds they had, especially with ROR. Jon was an obvious ally to write the kind of music Perry wanted to record. But Perry couldn't be there for Jon....

My remark was not stupid, but your retort was.
