Hall of Fame Sucks`

Postby Rockindeano » Tue Nov 29, 2005 11:34 am

I just thieved this from a "person" over on the Twiglets board..

Tell me how the hell can the HOF type up this promo for Lynard Skynard, and how it NOT applies the same to Journey? I DO believe Lynard Skynard definitely belongs in, but if the HOF criteria for them applies, it ought to applt for a band who did it bigger, better and in more places than just the South.

The promo:Lynyrd Skynyrd -- "Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed Southern Rock groups of the 1970's," and they were also cited for "their distinctive triple-lead guitar sound."

Goddammit, I need a drink now.

Well, let's see: Journey was not Southern Rock, they had no triple-guitar threat, and they were never really critically acclaimed. That promo didn't fit with Journey at all! Well, there is the "most commercially successful" part...

Christ 28..you know what I am saying.. "Commercially successful." That's what "killed the band"..
So it's ok for Lynard Skynard to be "commercially successful" but shit, if JRNY does it, they're Fricking sellouts..I have had it.

The Hall of Fame is a joke. Who picks the bands anyway? It is almost as bad as the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Agreed. It is a joke. Even if Journey makes it in, who cares?

But the Pro Football HOF - that is NOT a joke!!! And they better vote Art Modell in this year...

I don't want to hijack the thread, so I will PM you a little history lesson, Deano. Sounds like you only know the wrong side of this issue.

The selection committe has their favorites. That is why Art Monk has been snubbed the past couple years.

This had nothing to do with the R and R Hall of Fame, does it?

Jim Plunkett? What happened to Lynard Skynard?

Did somebody hijack this thread and turn it into Football?

We tried not to, but it happened. I guess the HOF isn't a hot topic...

Yeah, I agree.
The R&RHOF nominating committee will do what they want to get their own arists recognition.
So there's not much point in discussing it.

The posse consisted of Art Monk, Gary Clark, and Ricky Sanders. I honestly can't remember where they went to college at though. I keep thinking either Gary Clark or Ricky Sanders went to JMU or George Washington, but that is probably wrong.

Charlie Brown and Alvin Garrett were before Clark and Sanders.

I think Clark did go to JMU. Not sure about Sanders, but I am sure a quick Google search would divulge his alma mater.

I have that SB on tape, too. Also have the playoff games against Atlanta (TOO LEGIT TO QUIT) and Detroit. What a great season that was. I also have the Doug Williams SB and SB 17 against the Fins.

Wow I'm jealous that you have those two SBs on tape. I see them offered on ebay sometimes, I 'm just afraid to buy them as I'm sure it's considered illegal.

I used to have the Doug Williams SB on tape, but it got taped over. Thanks parents!

I recently watched some of the Skins games from that year. He made a deal with the devil or something -- all of his passes were deadly accurate, and he had about 10 minutes in the pocket each time. Sick.

He was DEAD accurate from about '90-92. I guess it DOES help when you have The Possee. And aside from the Body Bag in '90 you barely get sacked.
