Well, since that post, I believe that there are people who genuinely favor the new line up over the old one. I still can't believe anybody would make this decision but apparently some people have.
I'm still sticking to my guns, even though they aren't big now, about the denial thing. Am I the only one who believes 1981 Journey totally blows away current Journey???????? Who knows?? Maybe I am. To me, it's absolutely NO contest.
I still like Journey. I've seen them twice since 1998. However, I don't like them as much as I do the old band.

Neal smokes on the wah, its different but musically really good. I think Steve's lyrics and ideas were good, but I do feel that it gets repetitive and think it could have benefited from more time and work or a little help from Jon lyrically. The mini jam at the end is really cool.

You're wrong. The top 4 tracks are inarguably as follows.
1- FITH
2- TPIYH
3- ABL
4- ITNTL
4- EG
Joe, what are you're other 3?
jrnyman28 wrote:I agree that Steve has some good lyrical ideas and imagery, but he really would benefit from more of Jon's input. It seems the Steve Augeri songs are a little repetitive lyrically, Jon could flesh them out more. And it is my impression that those songs Steve wrote, he wrote himself for the solo CD so I don't think Jon did to much "to" them.
My problem with Believe is the repetitive piano "riff" throughout. Some people complained that you could not hear enough of Jon's keys on Generations and the ONE song that his keys really stand out on sounds terrible!

Both of those albums ARE great.

I care for it quite alot. Sounds like Journey, but slightly different-more harder edged. In many ways, it's what expected Augeri's influence might bring to the group. Better Together is suggestive of some of Augeri's work on Shine. It's also similar to Red 13's The Time with it's great blues-rock vibe. I wish there were more tracks like it.

That is what I am thinking. That way we would not be able to say Steve didn't bring "much" to the table. He has credits on Arrival but they are pretty much overlooked.

100% agree. I am all for energy and chemistry. But Journey did rush this CD some. Thank god Steve got the excited, but I wish they would have given it a litle more time.NoMoreTails wrote: I agree about the piano riff, it bugged me from the start but I guess has grown on me somewhat.

Now I liked TBAA, but it remined me too much of BGTY over all.

I wouldn't want it any other way.
It works for the nature of the album.
High notes are attempted and not hit, he screams rather than croons...the raucous delivery is in synch with the raw nature of album.

Yup. But for whatever reason (probably because of the geographic gap between them) Neal and Jon left Steve largely to his own devices.
Although Schon and Augeri collaborated on Beyond The Clouds, Augeri later admitted that the collaboration happened by chance. Him and Neal showed up for rehearsal, no one else did and so they whipped up a song. Wish they would have these accidental writing sessions more often.
Andrew even said (in his interview with Cain) that for the song "Believe" he was really looking for "the Jon Cain co-write in there". In other words, 'Drew is saying, the song has potential as it is, but with Cain's help it could be even better.

I'd like to see the three of them get together for a week or two at a time without any preconceived ideas necessarily, or just some basic ideas, and write actually an entire album together. It could be written in a couple of months and recorded in another.

I don't see anything wrong with ohsherrie enjoying Generation music or any other music she likes from the current Journey. That 's perfectly fine!![]()
We have that in common that we are Perry fans... but we are individuals too. Speaking just for me, I just like my Journey music with Steve Perry, that's all!![]()
