I just saw it

The Houston '81. I'm sure most of you guys won't understand this, but I think most of the women on here will. I'm just totally overcome with emotion.

When I first heard that this was the next DVD to be released I wondered why. The concert had already been seen by so many. Now I know why.

Every one of the five men in that band was completely at the top of his game in this concert. The performance by each member and the band as a whole was flawless.

If there was one that I felt got even the least bit shortchanged in the coverage it would be Ross. His bass drove and underscored the sound perfectly throughout the concert.

Steve showed us why there has never been, and will never be, another like him. Smitty's drum solo was nothing short of phenomenal. Jon's solo proved what a maestro he is. Neal, of course he was incredible.

It honestly makes me wonder if the reason for the critics' pans of them were because they knew that giving them the credit they deserved would be setting the bar too high for other bands.

Several of the songs brought tears to my eyes. I could go on and on, but I know it would be boring.

I just want to say that the last photo in the slide show of Steve/Neal superimposed made me actually break down in tears.

That something so wonderful has passed from us is heartbreaking. At least we have this DVD to remember it by.

(sorry so sappy, that's just the way I feel right now)

i thought it was a great DVD as well but I have yet to sit and watch the entire DVD or listen to all of the CD. i have come to realize i am not a real rock n roll fan. the performances may be stellar and his voice may be angelic and outworldly; but i think i am just not where everyone seems to be at. i do wonder...how can that man run the entire evening across the stage without stopping. i don't think i'd want to do a meet n greet after the performance either.

Yep. They were totally at the top of their game here. There was a certain something that was VERY evident. I can't even put my finger on what it was. But it's something that certainly does not happen often to individuals or bands.

It's like when an athlete gets in the zone. Everything was on Journey's side at this point. Nobody came close to them then. And, as you know if you've read some of my posts lately, I think nothing comes close to 81 Journey.

I agree with you 100%.

Now, go post this over on the sticks board..and watch the shit hit the wall...

Seriously, they were on top of their game, BUT, certain members have gotten better...much better. Neal and Ross have improved greatly. I bet Smith would sayhe has too. Cain has always been great. The only one who hasn't gotten better would be ...nevermind..

Neal is leaps and bounds beyond where he was 24 years ago. I just wish he would come to terms with his ability and legacy and find some peace in himself, as it seems like the past couple of years he's seemed almost desparate to find something to secure his name alongside a clapton, santana, EVH, etc....The guy smokes all of them.
