Waukegan Journey Review

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:38 pm

First off, the weather was terrible, the snow was coming down hard, the roads were terrible, I thought for sure there would be less people. But no, it was sold out and from where I was sitting, I didn't see an empty seat. Second off, I ended up with an extra ticket at the last minute, like usual it's a long story. Froy was coming back from Wisconsin and got stuck in the blizzard that hit so there was no way he could make it in time - BECAUSE MEN CAN'T PLAN THAT GOOD IN ADVANCE!!!! I couldn't sell the ticket due to everyone had tickets and all the cops around. So I went into the theater and found a person that was sitting in the worse seat in the back behind a pole or something - the concert was sold out and it was standing room only. So I asked him if he'd like to sit by me farther up and I took him to the 4th row - Neal's side. I was in the perfect row with a bunch of fun rowdy concert people, thank goodness. The guy turned out to be a 19 year old kid and wasn't even born when most of these songs came out - LOL His parents are huge fans and he was brought up with the music of Journey and he knew every word to all the songs, even the new ones.

I missed the first 2 songs due to this mess. From where I was sitting the sound to me was perfect, vocals were great, the guys were right on. I thought Steve and Deen's vocals were right on, for some reason, especially Deen's. I get more and more impressed with him. His drumming was like an animal and I think, he's one of the better drummers out there right now. I enjoyed every song, there was not one song that I didn't like at all. I think the best song of the night was "Chain Reaction". For the new ones, people around me seemed to know all the words and Neal knew that and kept giving our section the smiles during those songs.

Sorry my reviews not detailed, I was so happy to be at this concert and listen to the great music!! Here's the setlist that I took from the "other" site since I didn't write down the songs.

Be Good to Yourself
Ask The Lonely
Only The Young
Faith in the Heartland
Star Bangle Banner
Stone in Love
Wheel in the Sky
Mystery Mountain
Place in Your Heart
Feelin that Way
Anytime
Lights
Still They Ride
Every Generations
Chain Reaction
Who's Cryin Now
Open Arms
Escape
Anyway you Want It
Faithfully
Don't Stop Believin
Separate Ways

Encore....

Great review, glad you had a good time.

They are still playing three songs from "Generations", that is a good thing. But only one Pre-Perry song...I guess that makes sense due to time and popularity.

I hope that trend continues to be completely honest.

I don't. With Deen's voice out of commission, someone else needs to sing and give Augeri some down time. I say include Mystery Mountain and Of a Lifetime or something.

Deen did some singing in Waukegan. For me honestly, Still They Ride was perhaps the best of the night. That isn't to take away from the other material though. I thoroughly enjoyed the concert, however I got a sense that the band wasn't completely into it that night. The crowd on the other hand, totally into it. Where Dean and I were, we had kids all around us. The majority of them knew the words and were just having a great time.

I think the largest applause of the night went to Augeri. Faith in the Heartland, A Place in Your Heart, Any Way You Want it and Faithfully were the standouts for me.

At the end when each member took a bow, Augeri had the loudest and longest applause compared to them all. I think Deen had the second loudest.

Where I was sitting, I didn't get that sense at all. I thought they were pretty much on, but then again, I was listening and jamming to the music all night. All the songs were great.

Deen's voice was totally on!!! I have a feeling he'll be singing more on the next tour in 2006.

jrnyman28, I wish I could've had a more detailed review, but there was way too much going on - LOL

I hope they continue playing the songs from Generations too.

Eric that's terrible. While I think they were not into it I can honestly say that they put on a great show. I think they blew current Styx out of the water.

Hopefully you will get to see them soon.

Still...we had fun and yes, they did blow what now passes for Styx off the stage (I'm getting closer Dean...empirical evidence and all).

The weather certainly was terrible.
It would have been good to see them do edge of the blade.

I just have to say this..

The weather was NOT terrible. Hell, I didn't even bring a jacket..Midwest is full of a bunch of pussies who drive "using the force." My God, you all live there...Don't you adapt? I did in about 4 minutes...

The cold wasn't the bad part, it was the roads and how they weren't plowed. And it was Sadie's driving that made it worse - LOL  Just kidding Sadie, well not really, I was pretty terrified - LOL

Thank god for seatbelts!! No kidding.

OMG, I can't remember praying that much in the front seat of a car before, especially when you made your own lanes on the road!!!

You know directions?? LOL OMG, no offense, but OMG

I know where you live! I was referring to Dean's belief he knows directions (which he does...at least better than someone from Wisconsin...).

And I told you...sidewalks and curbs are extra lanes to drive one!

At least that's how it is here...that and an overabundant use of turn signals....

Sadie, you know that I love you, but my gosh, you're driving especially that night, was, um, scary, very scary, frightening

That wasn't a sidewalk or curb, you were driving in a whole new lane on the road with traffic coming at us

You didn't even know it, which was even scarier

As for directions, the ONLY time I screwed up that I can remember is County B and the wrong way to Canada - LOL 8)

Hey, if I was you, I would shut it down..You live there too..and you scared the shit out of me too....

Back to Sadie. Remeber when we were trying to pick a bar, and all she had to do was whip a U turn? Uh, no..signal, wait 4 mins, turn left, signal, wait 2 mins, turn left into a paint shop parking lot. 3 point turn, and signal(in the fucking parking lot), turn right..signal, wait 6 mins at light, with no one coming..finally turn right, and travel 100 yds..signal, turn right into parking lot..once IN the parking lot, signal again(ARGH!), and turn into the space.

I didn't even talk about locking the keys in the car with the motor running! Hahahahahaha

Oh, NO WAY!!!! My driving was fine on Sunday. When we kept going the wrong way, which wasn't my fault (LOL) I made a nice quick fast turnaround without having traffic come at me. You even commented very nice on my driving. And I even went into traffic just fine and didn't wait for a half hour for a car to go by - LOL

Oh and, I didn't hit anything (did I?)

Sadie,

I haven't even touched on the trip to the train station on the way home..Nor the Maps you had printed out with the 18 steps on it...

step one- drive .45 miles
step two- turn right
step three- drive west on 32 for 1.2 miles

too funny
