Ever See Anything That Just Blows You Away?

Just a conversation starter here...In the entertainment business, where talent is concerned, there are a few moments in my life where I've just been absolutely floored by a performance, or just an amazing display of someone's abilities. Here's a few off the top of my head:

First time seeing Vic Wooten play bass live
Journey's performance on the Houston DVD
Seeing Prince perform live
Meeting Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson after a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar
Watching Virgil Donati's drum solo during Soul Sirkus show from 10 feet away
Watching Deen Castronovo play "Chain Reaction" from backstage, 10 feet away
SEEING KING KONG 2 NIGHTS AGO!!

I want everyone to understand. There's a lot of "WOW" moments out there, but I'm talking times where you were just FLOORED by someone or something in the entertainment business. Anyone want to share?

Seeing The Wallflowers open for Chris Isaak months before they hit and saying to my friend "Dang, these guys are great. Won't be long before we'll say 'remember when we saw them open for Chris Isaak'!"

Watching Steve Smith sit in with Journey in Hollywood last January. Totally unreal.

Let's see for me in the Entertainment business, just remember you asked :wink:

I was totally "floored" by all of these!!

-Interviewing Dennis & Suzanne DeYoung for my cable show
-Having dinner with Dennis & Suzanne DeYoung
-Interviewing JY on the Styx tour bus and watching part of the show next to the stage and in the pit in front of the stage
-Meeting Roger Hodgson & filming for my cable show, 2 nights of VIP
-Going back stage before the Night Ranger show and talking & laughing with Jack Blades
-Meeting Loverboy after the show and having Mike Reno give me a "noogie" LOL
-Babbling with John Waite after his show, I still don't think he knows what I was talking about - LOL
-Going to L.A. on various television sites and interviewing for another tv show, etc. etc. on this one.
-Having 15th row center for Paul McCartney
-Having 6th row for Neil Diamond
-Having 4th row/Neal's side for Journey

That would have been awesome. I am working up a cover of "Hey Nineteen" with one of the best guitarists I know (Berklee grad) and the guitar work has totally thrown him for a loop. He's getting it, but you don't think of anything that complex when you hear the song.

I saw two Rhinosaurus' have doggie style sex at the San Diego Wild Animal Park

Striking a strawberry truck at 78 mph and not getting so much a bruise. I love being in the train when we collide; We always win that one.

Pounding beers with Mr. Schon was mind blowing

Seeing President Clinton cuss out Newt Gingrich, and telling him not to bother coming to a WhiteHouse dinner after he was invited.

Watching the Heads spin their way into the ground like a giant auger bit..Too funny...

Seeing Perry sing in 1981 was unbelievable.

Watching Augeri get better every year.

Seeing Jon Cains body...Damn.

Watching Secretariat become the greatest racehorse and athlete the world has ever seen..

Watching Wayne Gretzy become the most dominating player in all of sports...66 records owned.

Seeing TO become a bigger asshole by the day..

Marabelle - Have to agree about Prince. We saw him in Charlotte during Jam of The Year tour (I think 2001?), anyway, just amazing watching him doing the upside down left handed bass solo.

mnmsjrny, would have loved to see U2. Have never had the chance.

SMB, so cool to have dinner w/DDY and his wife! You should try to get an interview with Neil Diamond for your show. What an amazing guy. He's out peddling his new CD right now.

I contacted Neil Diamond's people before the show and they sent a really nice reply back that he didn't have time, but I'm suppose to contact him with more notice -LOL And I also talked with Paul McCartney's people and Paul really enjoys cable show (LOL) I'm suppose to contact him when his next show is announced - LOL

I'm working on plans to go to California in March, we'll see what happens.

Saw Fleetwood Mac, years ago, and was pretty "gobsmacked" when Stevie Nicks forgot the lyrics to Rhiannon. It was only the biggest single they'd had. It wasn't handled very professionally by the band. Mick was the only one who kept playing.

Its the most amazing movie I've ever seen.

BTW Eric, I'm almost positive we're going to be playing in Nashville on Saturday Mar 25th. I don't have a venue yet, but we're doing a show at Vandy the Friday night and we are definitely going to book something the next night. Hope you can make it - I'll let you know when I get something definite!

Seeing LRB on their 20th anniverary tour at a small bar...and then, two weeks later, seeing them for free at the fair with 10,000+ others, after another act canceled...That may be the best concert I have ever seen. Just incredible. I really miss Glen Shorrock...I wish he would tour the US one last time.

Seeing the Main Event Tour from the center of the third row. I don't think any of those bands were just going through the motions...they all kicked ass...and I got two picks from each band, and a carrot button for Styx. Actually, I had three picks for Journey and gave one to the lady sitting next to me.

Seeing Damn Yankees in Sacramento from only a few rows back with my friend Dayle...I almost caught Ted's hat that he threw I had my hands on it but some psychotic, drugged up, biker dude had it too, so I let it go. But, that was a blast.

Hearing Sarah Darling sing at church a few years ago. I was just stunned at how amazing her voice is...It's hard to believe she is unsigned. The record industry is full of idiots who don't know what talent really is.

As for movies, I would have to say seeing "Fellowship of the Ring". My expectations were already high...but it still blew me away. I saw it three times in the theater. The rest of the LotR movies were impressive too...but, after seeing FotR, I knew this series was something historic.

I had to write on this one....aside from Journey, and Toto performances (I watched Toto perform the entire Kingom of Desire tour set back in '93, sitting i right in front of Luke, in a small rehearsal studio in hollywood (Leeds) it was surreal)...

most recently, I had the chance to see Butch Walker perform in New Jersey (back in April). That guy is crazy f'in talented - and the acoustic version he did of his song "Suburbia" was amazing. In a small bar, it was worth it to walk up the front of the stage.....

I also saw Virgil Donati's SS solo - that WAS freakishly sick - Neal goes "Brother what you do want??"...funny - it was a shame Virgil was not groovin with the band though (I really like his fusion stuff by the way), so this surprised me...

I've also seen numerous shows at the Baked Potato - with Vinnie Colaiuta playing drums and other godly musicians, which is always quite the experience..

Steve Augeri on stage this summer. The guy keeps getting better and better, and the crowd notices.

Deen singing Jesse Rides. Blew me away. He gives the glory days of Perry a run for his money.

Neal on guitar...playing anything. Dude is more talented than anyone...he can play anything...and is consistently amazing.
