The deal with Suzanne

Postby BlackWall » Sat Dec 17, 2005 4:22 pm

Just curious, was this a really bad song, or what? It made the top 20, yet it's not featured on their original greatest hits, or the two disc essential collection; I might be mistaken, but it's not even on "Time 3", is it? Can anyone shed some light? Is it work picking up the album "Raised On Radio" to hear it?

One of my favorite tracks from ROR. It was a single - actually, I believe it was the first place I was able to track down "Ask the Lonely" (as the b-side) back in 1985 (didn't want to by the "Two of Hearts" soundtrack, or it was out of print, or something...can't remember)

Two of a Kind, J Travolta and the Aussie lesbo Olivia Newton John(yes, i would plow her).

Black wall, save your money, and PM me...I got it live too. Perry sounded like shit on it compared to Deen..

No way! From what I've read, she isn't, although a lot of gay men are attracted to her. :D

ROR's worth buying for more than just suzanne.
Newton John DID have her finer points....
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

This question has been asked MANY times over the years, and there has never been an answer. I enjoyed "Suzanne", Cubby will tell you it is probably the WORST song Journey ever recorded. It was a single and it charted. I have no idea why that song is overlooked so I will assume that someone in the band must really not like the song...

Why this song never appeared on any compilations despite its modest success is a complete mystery. I for one love the song. I think Perry's performance on it was fantastic. The final "Suzaaaaanne, No no no no no remembah..." is one of the highest full voiced phrases he had ever sung. I also think it's worth picking up Raised on Radio regardless of Suzanne. I think it's a great record, and there's some stinkers on it, but there's also some of their best work as well. Just take out the politics of the time and anything else and enjoy the music. A different Journey record indeed, but still a great listen.

You know me too well Dave, I fucking hate that song, it is so not a Journey song its not even funny. I don't like ROR, thats true, but there are some tracks that are decent, ie...GCHI and the title track. But, Suzanne, seriously folks, I don't care what kind of a performance Perry had on it, it fucking sucks!! It is such an embarrassment to the legacy that is Journey, it makes me sick. If you want to like it, go ahead, but don't go on and on about what a great Journey song, please!
When its all boiled down and the days at an end, I'll give you no bullshit and I'll never pretend.
