Yeah but dude, that is kind of unfair.....I mean what other tune than SOTW is TOTALLY and ICONICALLY associated with Blackmore?
I mean Morse probably doesn't even want to play it like Blackmore, but how can he not and still make it sound like SOTW?

I mean it would be like a guitarists oyher than Page doing 'Black Dog' and people going, "gee, it just doesn't feel right" - of course it wouldn't, ever.

I tell ya though, I'd rather see Purple with Morse and have SOTW just 'not feel right' than not see Purple at all, ya dig?

In 1998 I went to see the mighty VAN HALEN..... Gary Cherone was singing - now I would rather have had Sammy or Dave, but like, would I have rather seen VH with Cherone or not at all?? It's a no-brainer dude.

Blackmore ain't gonna play 'Smoke' with Purple again - ever. That doesn't mean Purple 2005 isn't a great band.

Where did everyone go?

My AOTW continues with my neverending rut: Masterplan "Aeronautics." As predicted by me in January, this would be my album of the year, and no band would come close...so far, I've been correct. Starbreaker came close, and After Forever came really really close, but otherwise, 2005's been a no-contest.

I'm pretty happy with a few releases this year. Aeronautics is great. A few others I'm pleased with are,
Demons and Wizards – Touched by the Crimson King
Kamelot – The Black Halo
Sentenced - The Funeral Album
Brainstorm – Liquid Monster
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys - Legacy
I would have been happier if Poisonblack's second album had been released but only God knows what's happening with that. Maybe next year.....

Considering that I usually listen to Styx 24/7 (LOL), I switched gears and have been listening to Dream Theater-Images and Words pretty much lately. Love this album/cd!

I was reading back on this thread and I have never heard of over half of the music groups that were mentioned!!

Any new recommendations of music to check out? Also, what type of music and who do they sound similar to? I'll check out their websites too

The only one on that list that I'm familiar with is Helloween.

As for metal, I enjoy early Metallica, Fastway (Trick or Treat Soundtrack), some Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and we have a lot of Accept playing in the house. That's my husband's favorite band. He loves very heavy metal and I'm still an 80's girl - LOL

Is Rainbow considered Heavy Metal or just rock? I like Joe Lynn Turner and Dokken too.

Other bands that I love are Classic Styx, Dennis DeYoung, Journey, Rush, Dream Theater, Triumph, Rik Emmett, Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Honeymoon Suite, Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas oh and I have to throw in Loverboy too!! LOL!!!

I've been playing Jack Blades' solo album on heavy rotation this week. I listened to it a few times in MP3 format when it was released, but I never paid it much attention until I got a legit copy in the mail last week. It's been in the car's CD player since Monday, and I just can't get enough of it. Damon Johnson's contributions were excellent, and I think it's a damn shame that the 3rd Damn Yankees album never saw the light of day.

I agree with you, it is too bad that Damn Yankees 3 never saw the light of day. I am looking forward to the new Shaw/Blades cd, even though it's a cover cd, still like their voices & music together.

If you like Fastway´s Trick or treat I would recommend you to check out their “Waiting for the roar” album which is very good melodic hard rock album. Did you know that Dave King, the singer of Fastway is nowadays singing for a band which combines irish folk music and punk (can´t remember the name of the band right now). I have only read about it but I´m sure it´s not hot stuff for melodic rocker. As for Rainbow I would say that Dio era could go to heavy rock category but Bonnet/Turner era melodic rock category.

I have no AOTW this week. I've been so stressed with work & christmas that I haven't been in the mood for music at all. It's been so bad that not even the cd order I received was correct.

So I will default to After Forever "Remagine." Originally I said this would be my female album of the year, but I've changed my mind, now that I got a chance to listen to the 2005 field over again. I'll be posting my female rock in review topic soon.

Mostly Autumn - The V-Shows.

The concert we went to last saturday was not as good as I hoped it would be, plus way too crowded. So I consoled myself by playing this CD.

Another strong contender would have been Kate Bush with Lionheart.

My AOTW is to be determined at this point of time. Still listening to my christmas stash. In theory, Ayreon "The Human Equation" should quash Nickelback "All the Right Reasons," but I'm a mainstream guy, so Ayreon may have to wait for a future AOTW, until I can spin it more times and fully digest all 2 1/2 hours of music there is to offer.
