"In Self Defense" - Steve? Deen? Both?

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Mon Dec 26, 2005 3:17 am

Like most, I initially thought Deen was providing the high pitched back-up vox on ISD, but the more I listen to it on headphones, I am pretty certain I hear Steve in there, as well.
Did they synthesize their two voices together?
Are they harmonizing?
Listen to it with headphones and tell me what you think.

I've always felt it was Steve. While Deen and Steve sound a lot alike, IMO it's not that close.

I think it's Augeri and Castronovo face-to-face in the same mic on those bg vox. Maybe a little Neal, too. But definately Augie and Deen.

I agree with Deano, just Deen.
But live Steve joined him at least some of the time. I think it sounded better live with both of them than it does on the cd.

I remember back in 83, when Neal was allowed to(by Espee), to do Lies..Perry did backing vox...he sounded exactly like Deen does on this song..

I do not recall Perry appearing on any other Solo works other than In Self Defense. And I still think that appearance was based solely on the fact that it was originally a Journey song.

But when I listen to the Gens "In Self Defense" I hear Steve on it. I know Deen is on the bg vox, and I believe his sister has said that it is only Deen...but I hear Steve too.

OK, naysayers.

Go get your Frontiers and Beyond video out. That's the ONLY way I can prove it.

I saw Perry do BG vox live, BUT the video even shows Perry doing it. The scene right after Neal gets hit with the bottle, and Perry cusses up a storm, and Neal is bleeding all over his face. Perry introduces the song, Neal sings lead(Lies), and Perry sings BG..He sounds exactly like Deen here..High pitched, shrill.

So shut the Hell up 28, I was right.
