OT: Who IS that guy??

Postby TRAGChick » Wed Jan 18, 2006 9:58 am

Hey -

Has anyone seen that commercial with the Baby-boomer silver-haired guy playing "Happy Birthday" on the electric guitar??

Who IS he?? Is he somebody "famous" from a "bygone" era - or just some guy who can shred....and the cousin of one of the camera guys?

Maybe he should do an album with Neal! 8)

Was wondering the same thing, Nora.
Is he really a guitarist or just a grade-C actor playing a part?

Thank God you know what I'm talking about - I was hoping SOMEone would! LOL

For the life of me, I can't remember what it's for....some sort of Life Insurance thing?

The VO intones something to the effect of: "This year, some Baby-Boomers turn 60...some see it as an ending; we see it as a beginning..."

....and the guy plays HB - the TONE and improv on the melody - Just gorgeous!!

That's all that matters, IMO...for a guy to take such a simple song and shred on it...wow...

Seriously...Neal should get in touch w/ this guy....their styles would complement each other...

Ok, is this the commerical where the kid tells the guy he's pretty good and asks who he is and the guy tells him his name is on the guitar? If so, that is the one, the only... Les Paul.

There is also a Geico commercial with the Spanish guitarist Esteban in it.

Was it one of those?

I know the commercial we were talking about. Some sort of Investment company talking about baby boomers reaching the age of retirement. The guy is in another one of there commercials but you don't get to hear him play. In that one there are just a lot of clips, starts out with 'baby boomers have lived through...of course they are not going to retire quietly' (or something like that). It is not Les Paul. It is not Esteban/Geico either.

I have heard of Snuffy Walden. I have the DVD of "The Stand" by Stephen King, and Walden did the music for the miniseries. Great Guitar work. :D

LOLOL 28,

I look at the credits when I watch a movie. And with the guitar music, I had to find out who it was. :D

You're very welcome, Dave

I admit, I never heard of him...but he does a LOT of soundtrack work for TV, and studio work as well.

FYI, regarding "The Stand":

The Soundtrack is available at CDNow.com...just do an artist search on his name.
