Perry era DVDIII?

Postby Red13JoePa » Mon Feb 27, 2006 12:01 am

What will it be?
I: GH.
II: Escape Tour show

III: If it happens, I'll bet would be an ROR tour show. That era seems to be near and dear to Perry's heart, plus it would showcase a far different band than Escape era.

That could be another likelihood. Different enough from ESCAPE era. Frontiers era show to me would be least likely as it's too similar and close to the ESC4P3 era...

Frontiers and Beyond, is my guess.

Well the talk always was that ROR would follow Escape.
I agree with RED that ROR is obviously dear to Perry.
Somehow, I doubt we will see a Departure era DVD.

Didn't they already rerelease F&B through the internet site store? Like around when Red13 came out? I WOULD like to see it....tell me somebody, how many full live songs doesn it contain?

I have it.
It was a horribly done product.
Missing 2-3 songs from the original.
No menus, no bonuses, no chapters.
The package is an exact reproduction ov the VHS including a reference to a non-existent Grammy Nomination and Jon Cain is listed as J. Friga...

This was a good example of how NOT to release a DVD. That is part of the reaso I do not think we will see another version of it comeout. Excuses were they could only transfer the tape before it was too bad to use....that was "why" some of the songs were removed.

I think there would be an uproar from the fans who bought what Journey offered if they manage to release a much better version later. But I guess it could be a Director's Cut featuring previously never before seen on DVD footage if they restore the concert segment...

From what I remember, the Mountain Aire concert from Angel`s Camp in August 1986 was filmed and it was even partially aired. Now that`s a show I would like to keep on a DVD! The GCHI clip from the GHDVD made me want more.I hope for all of it. :)

Yes, but it was done in typical journeymusic.com slipshod fashion.
No menus. Started playing automatically. Terrible sound.

I hope the ROR live dvd would be a compilation of all the best Journey material from the tour, rightly excising those god-forsaken mowtown covers they (Perry) crammed down crowds throats that year.

I have a copy, of a copy of the original F&B VHS and it's still is reasonalbly good condition. How can the original be that bad? How can it be in worse condition than the Houston '81?

The DVD was just sloppy work that was released in a hurry to be offered in a package with Red 13 in order to generate sales.

You're right about the uproar, but they might be able to get away with it by throwing in some extra footage. I know this is going to be an unpopular concept, but it would be received better if Steve was behind it.

Steve will be behind any classic-lineup dvd that hits the shelves.
In fact, some speculate that the reason why the crappy F & B re-release was pulled, is because Perry wasn't behind it.

And there seems to be no love lost between Rolie/Perry. So I wouldn't hold my breath on the departure era dvd. I'm greedy, i want every era, but logistics and the human condition will intervene. I mean, really. Why wasn't Rolie at the HWOF?

This was a quick transfer job that the band had Alan Craft work on, and it was quickly removed from the market...I'd be willing to bet that no one discussed the release with Perry's people. Alan was let go from the Journey organization shortly thereafter, could have been a fall guy for the project that was doomed from the get-go.

I've always thought he might have been more vocal in his support of the new Journey and more negative towards Perry on BT than Perry cared for, figured this led to his departure. On the other hand, other members of Journey's crew departed around the same time, cutting expenses?

Heard it simulcast on the radio in the summer of 83
Funny how I stil can hear it in my head and somehow I felt like I was there across the miles. Can't help but to hope that someday I can see & hear it on DVD.

I have an original vhs copy of "Frontiers and Beyond". And the back cover lists Jon Cain as Jay Cain under his picture.

I'm guessing it won't be Diamond Head Crater, 1973. Although if such footage existed it would be incredible I'm sure.

I don't think so. I am sure they are all embarassed by how they looked back then. And Randy Jackson would probably demand a lot of coin...

Remember Reardon called Jackson a "Fat, fuckin cotton picker?" That was a JReardon classic night of being without meds. Where is the 24 hour Walgreen's when you need it.

I don't know if Randy is even entitled to any bank. He wasn't in the band. He was hired for tour, right?

And if you think they are embarrassed by their wardrobes, I say they looked better than 81. Perry and his ball tight levis running around coked up like Marion Barry and Neal in an MTV shirt. yeah, and Ross wearing his Jersemaid milkman coveralls....

Neal with jheri curl. Jon with a perm and keytar. Perry with his his fluffed up. Need I say more?

Now that Randy is a big celebrity, I am sure his lawyers would try to get him as much as possible.

Randy isn't entitled to anything though is he?

I am sure he signed a very carefully worded contract that says he gets paid for the ROR tour, and perry cleans up all the extra

My understanding was that Randy was indeed a part of Journey, especially since he also has credits on ROR. Mike was solely a touring drummer, not a member. But hopefully, the band was 'officially' Neal, Jon and Perry.

Still, in order to retail ANY video, you must have agreement from all people involved. That gives Randy some leverage...

from nick,
do you guys really think there will be a third one, everytime i look at the billboard comprehensive music chart, the greatest hits dvd is constantly in the top 30, while the houston dvd fell out of the top 40 about 4 or 5 weeks after it was released, somehow i get the feeling that perry thinks the houston show is the best and nothing else could compare to it, plus he gets so emotional when remastering it, don't get me wrong, i would love to see that tokyo departure show, followed by raised on radio and then frontiers philly show, i just don't think we will see any more

Whatever he decides to produce I will embrace with open arms. :D
I don't think at this point his main concern is producing a DVD based on what will afford him a bigger share of the pot.
I think foremost in his mind is the music. I trust whatever he chooses will be what he feels best highlights & brings further depth to the band and its music.

I do think at this point he will be doing some things for himself.
He may have been comfortable living life under the radar
& while it has fulfilled him to a certain point I think he still yearns for more
As time goes by it becomes more urgent to express the person he has become and to evolve into the one that he wishes to be.
I feel most recently there is sort of a ball set in motion
I hope he allows himself to roll with it and allows it to take him where he wants to be.
If a part of him wants to get in the studio
Then I hope he finds the right material and players
and shares some of whats inside him with us again
Whatever it is I hope he just enjoys creating and expressing himself

I don't think we'll see this DVD for a while.
If we're both lucky maybe will get something even sweeter
A few new tunes that makes our hearts smile
Heck life is too short not to live and love without the voice of Steve Perry.
