I thought he came across as intelligent, introspective and gracious, whereas Jon came off looking bitter and resentful.
Gracious? How so? At the WOF ceromony, he was definetely gracious. He exuded class that day. Thanking Herbie Herbert, the rod crew, the fans and complimenting the band members. A thing of beauty.
During BTM, it was all about him, except the part about the "kinship of Neal's strings and his voice." Maybe not Perry's fault. He didn't produce it, after all.
As did Neal to a degree, just with a more "hey I'm so cool, man" face on it.
Neal was very gracious to Perry. The remark about the reason they were on the radio was due to the voice, was but one example. I really don't think Neal prescreens what he is about to say. He just says it like it is. Neal just exudes cool; he can't help it.
Just because the "never felt like part of the band" was put in at the end, it doesn't mean he meant it to apply to his entire tenure with Journey. I think he was talking about the time when CBS and Herbie first put him into the band and they all resented him.
I tend to agree. At least I hope this was the case. However, I have some doubts. Why would HH, Smith, Valory, Neal and Cain all be gasped at that comment? Surely one of them must have asked if he meant the entire duration of the band, or Perry's entry time period.
I have to agree that the BTM has to be Jon's lowest point.
I may be the only one on here who disagrees with everyone here. I think it is flatout manly he broke down like that. I applaud that. Guy has a huge heart, and his feelings came out. So what? He saw a kid, a human being stripped of life. He has kids, and he has a heart, he knows the emotional attachment. If anything, my respect for Jon grew by leaps and bounds. Come on, who here didn't get a little teary eyed when they showed Kenny's face and played
Only the Young.? I sure did. THAT, was what life is all about. Compassion for our fellow man.
Last note, I think we got a foggy story all around. After all, they were all bound as to what they could or couldn't say. It was no different than the government and classified documents. It wasn't really truthful.
The entire thing reeks. How pathetic Perry and Schon can't talk? How pathetic this great band can't grow the hell up and put some mixed emotions behind them. BOTH sides.
Disgusting.
I wonder what will happen if God forbid one of the guys were to pass away. Would the other side come pay respects? When it's too late? Come on already.
