The band isn't much of a help to him tho, as he hasn't a strong enough voice to be heard above the musicians. He was probably a better vocalist with Tall Stories, where he didn't have to compete with musicians who forgot how to play to a singer. A singer shouldn't have to struggle that hard, imo.

I doubt you have heard enough of the current lineup to make a judgement like this. I have never heard Augie have to struggle to be heard over the band. If he did, then that's the fault of the crew.

Which boot has MOL on it?

I titled it "Augeri 1st Show" NIGGSTER. Secret warmup gig in the bay area prior to mini tour of Japan in '98. It's either THAT and/or Osaka, 2001. You have both and if it's OSAKA, that audio is far better.

As the far as the title, it's hard to tell, they're very comparable on most. The only clear-cut winner for Augeri for me is Open Arms.

TNC, i agree. Something is ALWAYS missing from Higher Place. The closest it came to being great was Vegas, but I can still nitpick the HELL out that rendition. They can't get it.

The Time, on the other hand they hit a 500 foot home run on the Bilixi 02 boot. Dead on. I don't get it.

What? Augeri couldn't sing that song if his life depended on it.

Disagree.
SIL is another song that he consistently pulls off decently even on nights when he is running on fumes.

Are you fucking high? He flatout sucks ass on this. Listen to SIL on the boots. Cracks like 86 yr old paint. Terrible.

I have quite a few.
His voice doesn't crack and in fact, I prefer his rendition to Perry's on GHLive.

Listen to the end. I can sing better than that.

You are deaf bro.

Dean, it happens at the Greek '05 at then end of the song (yes, 1 moment he's singing and the next the voice literally vanishes from the recording. He gamely attempts the ending 2 more times only to have the exact same thing happen both times), but that is the exception, not the rule of what happens when he sings SIL.

Yeah, that was very ugly. Exception to the rule though...it was clear he had a few problems the first half of that show. Wound up fine, and still pulled off all the important stuff.

Big suprise there.
Kevin Shirely re-fined the hell out of it and had Augeri lay down any necessary overdubs.
It's not truly a "live" dvd, more of a "pro-tools" dvd.

I have that boot, and The Time is not even remotely "dead on". It's terrible. However, on that boot, Augeri does perform a nice rendition of "feeling that way" "liberty" and "I'll be Alright Without You".

I'm not saying The Time off the Biloxi '02 is a great note-by-note copy of the EP version, just a magnificent, tight all-around rendition of it where the small alterations work and everything.

I've yet to hear that with HP.

But the 1 version of The Place In Your Heart I have is also a 4-bagger. Really satisfying. How much harder can it be to get HP right?

Says you about the overdubs, too.

If you think the 2001 Vegas dvd hasn't been touched up to the nth power than you are delluding yourself.
Overdubs were used (similar to the GH Live Cd) to fix any noticeable flaws on the part of any of band member (be it Neal, Jon, Ross, Deen, or Steve). This is most noticeable during La Raza Del Sol and Higher Place when Steve pulls the microphone away and there isn't any discernible drop in audio. No sound loss. None. While mics have good range, even when you pull away it is noticeable at least in volume.

I am willing to bet good money that Shirley and Augeri spent alot of time bunkered down together in the studio; fixing sour notes and probably re-doing entire songs all together.

Praps Elson/Fraser/Stone or whover it was at the console turned him up right in synch to compensate the time or 2 that this mic pull away happened :?:

i sorta have to figure the sound engineers are attuned to the nuances of his performance and know how to be prepped for when the singer might do that. I particularly think the soundguys would be extra prepped for this situation knowing it was a damn dvd shoot.
That said, I'm sure it and every official live document from everybody includes overdubs of vox and instruments at some points.

If you check out page 28 on the topic, Augeri Lovefest (ugg) at Backtalk, you see two pictures of Augeri with his mic way out of range. One picture with chubby Neal, looks like Augeri is throwing a fit.

Bullshit.

Perry on Be Good to Yourself, is second to none. Guy even sings backup parts as well. Come on guys, Perry might be the biggest dick ever, but this isn't even close.

Augeri on Ask the Lonely? Yeah I agree, he's got THAT one down REAL pat.

I had never ever ventured into the Agueri threads and GOD forgive me for what I am about to say but it's pure weekly bump bullshit! Didn't they say no more bumps? That thread is nothing but BUMPS..... Nothing intresting there! :D

Saw the pictures.
Neal's not even looking at Augeri, he's wailing on the guitar.

You're supposed to notice that Augeri is wailing and his mike is down by his side. Come on Noble! You made the point and I was giving an example.

Sorry, I edited my first post. I meant that it looked like Augeri was having a fit.
