Generations Distribution

Postby DreamAfterDream » Sat Mar 04, 2006 12:08 pm

This might be flogging a dead horse, but I haven't seen this mentioned. I tried to find a somewhat current thread on the Generations CD but not too old. Then I figured the hell with it.

Am I the only one who's noticed that the album is distributed by SONY Music? You don't think their pockets are deep enough to have it promoted better? I'm lucky to have found it when I did, the Wal-Mart had one copy and I haven't seen it replenished since. And go figure, the movie doesn't work on it either.

Am I trying to make a point here? I guess I'm just saying that the band is talking about how great it is to be free from a big corporate label and doing their own thing, then leave the distribution of an album they're obviously proud of to their old record company who refuses to promote them without Perry.

I thought "Generations" was distributed by Sanctuary, not Sony.
Is Sanctuary of subsidary of Sony?

Anyways, the promotional aspect of Generations came from giving it away at concerts.
Beyond that, the band simply didn't care.

It's odd in light of all the sony bashing that's gone on and the fact that the band sony parted ways, but their name is on the slevework in really small print. Probly a link in the JDK chain somehow.

I'll answer your question.

Sanctuary Records has had a distribution deal with Sony/ BMG since 2001.
So anyone who signs with Sanctuary will be distributed by them.

The band may have been offered a P&D deal (Promotion & Distibution).
If so, Journey obviously went with the distribution only deal, so Sony/BMG has no obligation to promote Generations.

They probably took the distribution only deal to be as free as possible from Sony/ BMG.

Generations sold appr.15-20.000 copies in Europe with distribution through Frontiers records so it´s not hard to understand they won´t headline any festivals over here.
The truth hurts I know!

I asked Neal about the promotional aspects of Generations when I had the fortune of meeting him after a show. I asked if Kalodner would promote it better than he did Arrival.
Neal assured me that the album would be promoted.
But he said it so so half-heartedly, there was no conviction in his eyes or fire in his belly.
Clearly the stratedgy was to give it away at shows and then let the chips fall where they may.

Why the big fascination with Europe? Who gives a shit. The world centre is Canad/USA. That's where the band thrives. Screw those meatballs and crepe eaters. Those stinky, smelly, shitty Spaniards and those no deodorant wearin Frenchies.

Why did they plant trees in Paris?

So the Germans could march in the shade.
