"Evolution Stage"

Postby Red13JoePa » Sun Mar 05, 2006 10:51 pm

Anyone have/heard this bootleg? It's from Chicago, IL 1979 off obviously the Evolution tour. One of the greatest quality boots available. At least soundboard if not radio broadcast.

I've been going old school a lot lately in an attempt to refresh appreciation for the history of the band. I know that this era Infinity through Captured has a sizeable cross section of us who are crazy about it. It's not my favorite era as the current real life incarnation is for various reasons. But still.....I can see what people are talking about. They were pretty invincible then. Next sounds Amazing (perry's added bg vox, a portent of things to come  ) with Neal and Rolie a house aflame. Also on offer is Kohoutek, one of the best Pre-Perrys and She Makes Me Feel Alright. Lady Luck makes a great appearance too. Love the blues tinge in that song. Must've had particular impact in Chicago.

Is that the one where the second or third song is "Next"?

Yes, and a smoking rendition it is. Add Genesis to list of bands that cribbed Journey because Turn It On Again sounds suspiciously like Next in a lot of parts.

This has to be one Perry's finest live (non official) hours, too.

I would love to get my hands on a copy of this one, that would be amazing. Personally this is my favorite era of the band. I don't think they were any better than they were during the making of these three albums with Rolie and Perry.
When its all boiled down and the days at an end, I'll give you no bullshit and I'll never pretend.

That is a great boot. I especially love Next, Lights and Winds of March on it. Perry at his best in my opinion.

My all time favorite.

There's also a boot from Japan with pretty much the same track listing.

Patiently is amazing on this, Perry is flawless.

I don't believe I've ever heard Winds of March and a lot of you praise that song.

Deano, do you have a clip to email so that I can hear this??????

Thanks for the help!

Got it-It is a radio broadcast. There is a one cd and 2 cd version out there. Have both, The 2 cd is the better. That was what I was listening to the other day that had the Perry interview on it, were he talked about the personal problems with Dunbar. Got the last show with Rolie in the other day, can't wait to listen to it.-ERIC

I haven't heard this one. I have portions of a Soldier Field concert from the Infinity tour that's part of a PBS Soundstage concert that seems to have a lot of the same material. The bluesy portions are my favorite part of the set. Steve also does WOM in a way that can leave nobody doubting that he could do it live just as well as on the album.

I got it from you, bro as you are The King. Abita knows how to kick rocks over looking for bootlegs. Anyhow, the 2cd one you talked about with Steveo's interview...he addressed the personal problems with Dunbar, I mean other than the company line? Do tell about that one....

About the 1979 Chicago bootleg...that`s one incredible show.Just listened to it again a couple of days ago and I still stop in my tracks everythime I hear Patiently.I believe that`s one of Steve`s best vocal performances ever.I wish I could`ve been in the audience to see & hear the whole thing.
I have the 2CD version and yes,Eric, you`re right, the second CD is better.

Perry nailed it again on the same tour but in Japan. Second time in a week I have listened to it-ERIC
