Journey should just tour with one band or none at all.

Even in 2003, Journey didn't benefit by having both REO Speedwagon and Styx at their shows. Some shows Journey wasn't able to play their full sets. Other shows, Journey wasn't able to interact with the audience the way they are known to.

I still believe that Journey will get more exposure by accepting the "Opening Act" role for The Rolling Stones in Europe and Asia instead of being crammed into a tour with six other bands. Journey loses its identity in the latter.

I'd have zero interest in seeing Def Leppard, so I hope Journey picks another band.

Troll,

That is your best post, ever.

Journey better get their shit together. This band is a mess. They shouldn't be doing any touring, period.

They should make a harder rocking CD with Neal's guitar leading the way.

Many European venues still have general admission or pitch. If Journey tours with five to six other bands, then the Journey fans are going to have to stay in one GA spot for 9 hours.

Well I guess the same could be said about me. I have no interest in seeing Journey as I am not that familiar with their music, but i will sit through whoever to see Def Leppard. Do you guys feel the same about Journey?

This will not happen b/c it will be GR Hts sets that leave both sets of fans staring at the "other" band blankly: BBBBUUUUTTTTT given the potential demographic involved I wonder if in addition to a healthy dose of hackneyed hits, each band might take advantage of the opportunity to plug the great material from both of their last records.
Journey, faced with a lot of DL fans (at least quasi-metal heads at this point) could go to the well on some of the heavier Gens/Red13 material (The Time, TPIYH, FITH, Believe, ISD, OOHW, B Together, even Gone Crazy), even something like All The Things.
DL, faced with a Journey crowd could work out some of the phenomenal X material that the metal heads found to be too DL "Lite."

I agree completely! But, like you said, it won't happen.

I have thought the same thing of Journey performing at these Festivals: they need to put together a hard-rockin' set because of the company they are keeping. But I am sure they feel the audience will only want to hear the hits. After all, Journey has not been in the UK since 1980 so it is onloy the "hits" that the audience will have any chance of knowing.....

Great idea though, this harder edged Journey might win some new fans and would please Journey's hard core fans who are tired of the greatest hits as well.

You know, Generations was promoted very well over there (thanks to Frontiers), so chances are, fans in Europe will be familiar with it.

Yes, from everything I can gather Frontiers did yeoman's work with Generations. You need a label that cares. I thought Sanctuary was gonna be that, and then the "payola scandal" broke (Andrew had to be one of the first to run with that bombshell) and we all realized why a lot of the bands written up here can't crack top40 or top 25 now.

Yeah, but I think it was Kaj that reported "Generations" still only sold 15-20,000 copies in the UK....

Any word on how many copies it sold throughout all of Europe?

I believe it would benefit Journey to tour Europe w/Toto as far as exposure. In a recent interview Steve Lukather said he and Neal talk about touring together but said that they don't need Journey in Europe and that Journey doesn't need Toto in the US, they'd be taking money out of each other's pocket essentially. I would think the same would apply to Journey and Def Lep here.

Neal and Lukather apparantly talked about this a couple years ago. I can see their point. But it wouldn't really be a bout money, it would be about exposure. ToTo definately could use the help in the US (especially with what is being reported as the BRILLIANT Falling In Between being released) and Journey definately could use the help in the UK.

Plus, the styles are more similar than the Journey/Lep tour. But then again, maybe reaching a new audience is a good thing....

Yep, it would be good for each of them, both however are probably more interested in making the most $ possible for the time spent than they are in expanding into new territories. This is something Journey should have done 7 or 8 years ago imo. European fans would have been more open minded to the new material perhaps. Toto stays on the road alot, I don't see Journey doing any more extensive tours than we've seen so far.

wow really put a new spin on my thoughts of DEF/Journey touring. I was under the presumption that Journey must do well in Europe and that is why they were touring together as Def LEppard is not taken greatly in Europe as they are in North America, but now it seems to me that both bands are North American hits. I wonder how they plan to reach fan base in Europe, I know Def Leppard is popular in other parts of the world other than North America, (Japan for one), but now this makes me think this is not the best pairing. Oh well, I will still try to make it to a show, and I am gonna take a listen to Journey's Greatest Hits to get a feel for them.

I have spent quite some time in Europe and I can tell you that Def Leppard was and is definately bigger than Journey on the old continent.Def Lep not only had good press in Europe but a lot of airplay too - things which Journey didn`t have not even in their best Perry era.
Two months ago I asked a friend across the pond if she listened to "Generations" and she said she hasn`t even heard that Journey released a new album. But I know she could humm any Def Lep song if I ask her.
I am not sure if Festivals are the answer for a good exposure as their effect last only for a few days.Sure, after seeing them live people could become interested in their album. The best strategy, tho, would be a steady promotion and I mean European radio airplay. But from what I see the current Journey line-up doesn`t get too much FM time not even here in the US.

I'm sure it helps that Def Leppard is from the UK. I'm sure that Journey would be just as popular as DL if they got off their asses and toured the UK for the first time since the early 80's.

That comment was pointless beyond belief and clearly one set to upset other fans of the current line up.
I will not warn you again.

Yes, Steve Perry is Jorney.
But Schon, Cain, Valory, Augeri, and Castronovo are JOURNEY.

Do you ever smile? I don't think I've ever read anything positive in your posts. Why do you dislike Journey so much? Let it go. There are other bands making music, do some exploring.

To get back on topic-
As far as the tour with DL- no thanks. Not my cup of tea. I imagine I'll attend a show, but no need for another night of the dirty dozen. I'm glad I went crazy with the Anniversary tour, I caught some great shows.
