Oh my God....I am so aggravated by what I saw on TV this past weekend, you don't even UNDERSTAND...

My Father-In-Law was watching some Channel 13 "beg-a-thon", as my Mother calls it .

Chris Bode, the Trumpet player who used to front the House Band of the "Caroline Rhea Show" and an accomplished Musician in his own right, had some show on as a "fund-raiser" for PBS...you can buy it on DVD; send in your donation, etc etc...

So, I'm watching it....and all of a sudden WHO SHOWS UP?

STING - y'know - the guy from "The Police"??

THE POLICE, for God's sake!!

The only thing that Steve Perry could do without sounding obsolete would be to put out a CD with Sam Cooke`s covers.He could sing those songs brilliantly and his current vocal capabilities would help him a great deal.

Only problem with this is that Perry has said he wouldn't do covers, and that anybody attempting one would have to do it better than the original...and that, well, that's not possible.

Just curious, Nora, why do you have such a problem with people's methods for raising money; who cares what they choose to sing to do it?

As for Sting, I've seen him in concert, and his show was awesome. The show was a whole production number, not just a jeans and tee shirt show. Just showed how versatile a performer he is.

I don't care for PBS, but tell me, if they had been raising money for...say...Katrina...would your answer have been the same?

I suppose it could be a bit shocking if you haven't really kept up with Sting, but he's branched out in many directions since those Synchronicity days including folk, jazz, standards, world music and club music.

Sting's version of My Funny Valentine was released last year on a compilation album called Sting-At The Movies. Guess it was in a movie.

He also has been known to cover Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" and the other night performed "Sign, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder at a fundraiser here in NYC. It was really fun.
