What happened at the 1987 Bammies?

Postby *Laura » Thu Mar 23, 2006 7:16 am

This story has always been unclear for me for some reason.
Ok,so in March 1987 right after the Anchorage farewell,Journey were nominated and won the Best Group award at the Bammies in San Fran and Steve was nominated for Best Male Vocalist. They were supposed to sing a couple of songs and they ended up on stage with …Michael Bolton fronting them??
What happened there?
The strange thing is that I never saw pictures of Journey on stage with Bolton that night.I mean it was a huge event and there are a lot of pics with the band receiving the awards, posing backstage and such, but no pics of that Bolton episode…Photographers would have made tons of pictures!

Anyone knows the details of this story?

As far as I know, Perry declined performing that night. Neal and Jon had been working with Michael Bolton on his "The Hunger" CD with the song "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay" so they asked him to sing with them.

It is odd that there are no pix....

.....This IS interesting....right at the beginning of the end, when SP went from being quasi-diva/flake to the complete and utter magic act of cancelling the band without ever REALLY quitting. I swear the SAME THING was going on in '97 and Schon/Cain refused to be caught in that trap again and unfortunately had to force him into making a decision (which it seems like he somehow STILL didn't make). The bammie thing is in line with declining to sing WAT and IYA on Time all the while STILL not really being in or out the band.
