Bands you hate

Postby Angiekay » Thu Apr 27, 2006 4:02 am

Deano and I sparring over Bruce Springsteen made me think of this topic, which I have always wanted to do. What bands do you hate, what artists make your skin crawl? This should be a good flame thread.

Here are mine, in no order except for number one, they deserve top spot:

1. Lynyrd Skynyrd
2. Janis Joplin
3. The Doors
4. Bob Seger
5. Boston
6. Melissa Etheridge
7. Garth Brooks...ANY country for that matter, Reba is WAY up there too.
8. Van Morrison
9. Don McLean(sorry Zan)
10. Grand Funk Railroad

What a deplorable idea for a thread. To Hate anything is just not a way to conduct one's way of life.

Consider me recused.

6.Poison - totally gay
7.Kiss - I hate men who wear Max Factor
8.Alice Cooper - pathetic
9.Cher - she`s a great actress.

Flirtin' With Disaster is a great driving song. That's the only tune I know from them.

I'm kinda with you there, although I didn't mind .38 Special so much...odd considering I can't stand Skynyrd!

Strange, but I don't think of 'hating' any artists. There are many that do nothing for me. There are many that make me scratch my head, there are many that have huge followings that I do not understand...but because music is so subjective I just do not hate them.

I do not get The Grateful Dead. Bob Dylan is fingernails on a blackboard. Tom Petty has great songs but I could live without his voice (earlier it was better than now). I do not like manufactured boy/girl band crap. I can't stomach Geddy Lee's vocals for any length of time but Rush is a very talented band. Don't get most hip-hop collaborations and stars.

OK...please don't draw-and-quarter me...

But ~I've REEEALY tried to like this group, and I DO like some of their earlier songs...

But as far as their "later works" are concerned, the answer is NO:

The Beatles.

I just CANNOT STAND this song....when they were into LSD and God-Knows-What:

"I Am The Walrus"

"Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Element'ry penguin singing Hare Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them Kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
coo coo coochoo.
(rhythmical speaking along with juba's).
Juba juba juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba juba. Juba juba.....
(speaking)

--Repeat (eventually juba's will stop) and fade until end.--
during the fade out background vocals:
[Simultaneously:] 'Everybody's got one' and 'Oompa, oompa, stick it up your joompa' [jumper]"

Does it have to mean anything? I happen to like that song. The Beatles were taking their music farther, getting out of that early style that they did. Have you read the lyrics to "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"? 8)

That is actually a very sweet story. Lucy is a girl who John's son Julian went to kindergarden with. He drew a picture of some stars in the sky for her or about her, called it "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds" and brought it home for his dad to see.

The song might have been *recorded* on drugs, but it's not *about* drugs.

Dude, I am with you 100%. ALL THAT CRAP.

I respect Dylan, but can't stand him, like 28 says. I HATE the shit out of Deep purple, Depeche Mode, Queen, Scorpions, Whitesnake, The Who, and Prince and Jacko.

YES! I was in fact reading your mind LOL

Actually, #8 would be the Spears and Jessica Simpson category. With Crow, its just that she gets massive pub anywhere you look..YET, with 2-1 tix she sold less than 2k tix here a few years back. That smacks of "MANUFACTURED" to me.

I love me some Whitesnake tunages....

However, I must say.....I bought a Queen Greatest Hits boxed set a few years ago, and I listened to it once, puked, and then it has sat there since. I don't know why I thought I liked them so much?

Some of Sheryl Crow's old music is good. The song "Riverwide", from The Globe Sessions, is great, imo.

I don't like the boy band music, but I can't think of all their names right now. Oh yeah. Boyz 2 Men. I dont hate it , but i'm not crazy about most rap music either

If its based on only that one tune or a few of their hits, that's like others judging Journey based on Open Arms and Faithfully, you miss what the band is really about...not to say you're necessarily doing that, just if...

Queen is one of those bands that you can take or leave. I like their music, they are great in concert, but to sit and just listen to one of their cds...just can't do it. ZZ Top is the same way. They put on a great show and have some cool tunes, but they wouldn't be who I'd think of if I wanted to just 'listen' to something. Of course, for me, radio has burned me out on a lot of this kind of music over the years. That's why I can't stand Boston. They had very few albums and that same handful of songs(that weren't that great to begin with)gets played OVERANDOVERANDOVER.
