If Augeri is not singing live...

Postby livin2do » Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:59 am

I have seen this incarnation of the band nine times. I will say that I have noticed Augeri's vocals getting better as time has gone by. But, IMO, he has always had his struggles. Every show, it seems like, there are blown lyrics, obvious fatigue, and some screechy bits, to say the least.

For example, I don't think I've ever been satisfied with his vocal towards the end of "Escape." His voice just seems to give out on him. And I think I've heard him nail the word "night" in "Don't Stop Believin'" once. I remember thinking how obvious it was that the vox had been dubbed on the 2001 DVD because that part actually sounded right.

I am probably the biggest Journey fan you'll ever find, and I love the current lineup. So, if Augeri is not singing live, why do they NEVER seem to cover up the parts of songs where I always hear him go flat? To hear the accusations, the band has the technology to make every performance perfect. So, why don't they?

I have the same questions. I hear too many times where he repeatedly struggles as all live singers do.

A lot of people do think some of the Vegas dvd vox were overdubbed and now there's a theory saying every vocal in that dvd was done over later in the studio. I can buy the former (and it would not bug me) and not the latter.

I am right with ya......

I think there are boots going around that don't contain the vocals that were actually performed. I would love to listen to a boot of the SPAC show, and be able to see.....I know Augeri sounded terrible on Any Way You Want it to close out the first set...

I was thinking just the opposite. The first two shows I saw after Augeri joined the band were fantastic. His voice sounded great. The last show I saw, on the 30th anniversary tour, wasn't so great vocally for him. The first few songs he sang on sounded pretty bad, in my opinion. He gradually sounded better as the show went on but nowhere near the first two shows I attended.

I am reposting this here because the last time I posted it, it was lost in a discussion about Styx:

I have tried not to have an opinion on this issue but I just can't help it. I have seen Journey live with Augeri probably over 50 some times. I have loved Journey like I have loved no other band and of course do not want to believe this is true. Augeri is a wonderful person and kind-hearted and I can not imagine that he would want to lip any song or mislead any fans. BUT, could it happen? REALLY, could it? Normally, just like the person named "Pit" that posts here, I would defend them to the death; however, I have seen and heard Augeri struggle with his voice and with some notes. I think it is common knowledge how hard he tries to take care of his voice, but it sometimes does just not come through for him. In summary, I guess I COULD accept the idea of some enhancements....but to lip almost entire songs? I am just not sure I can believe it.

Just one person's .02 cents!
