Other recorded shows? A studio recording? There's lots of ways to do it.

What kills me about this is that they were dumb enough to use Vegas for large portions of it. Why not at least cull from a recording no one's heard so it's not as obvious? They had to know some hardcore fan with dozens of bootlegs was going to figure it out eventually.

My favorite is Elson wearing a peacoat, wig, fake mustache and Rex Harrison hat pulled down over his face flipping the switch of the tape on/of on/off on/off.

Must be his alter ego, because, Kevin doesn't travel with the band.

I heard he's now switched to just wearing a false face now.

Something that also odd is that with all the live soundboards they have of Steve from '98 through '04 why not pick his best renditions if you're gonna fake it? Why the pure sloth of strictly sticking to the 01 dvd over and over again. Why not switch up the sleight of hand? Seems it would be dangerously easy to get caught using the same rendition all the time.

That's exactly what gives this theory credibiluty "issues." No way a pro outfit would be that see-through.

The songs NOT off Vegas, were most likely done in studio, and I do not know the answer to this for sure. However, I do know they aren't singing live, except of course for Deen.

Is that because Deen is really Dean? :D -ERIC

Simple, the board engineer punches him in and out from tape to live and back to tape (that is, if that is what they're doing). Very easy, and very orchestrated.

They open up his mic for certain sections of songs.

How can you determine Steve's vocals are pre-recorded? I thought you came to your current theory by comparing bootlegs to the 2001 DVD audio. So what are you comparing the other vocals to in order to support your latest accusations?

Then they are some of the most coordinated, clairvoyant people in the world. I don't know how some engineer is going to be able to anticipate what will happen in a live show well enough to be able to punch Steve's mike through at exactly the right time. Steve is responding to things that are happening live.

So, Steve is singing live when something that obviously is live happened or when he messes up the lyrics or he hits an off note, but he is on tape when he sounds great. So he is singing, but some magic person only puts him through to the audience when he wants to ad lib or hit an off note, etc. all done so perfectly that the audience has not detected a thing for, what's the current theory--years? You know this is the same crew that can't get Neal's monitors right half the time and he is gesturing to them with annoyance. But they are perfect with Steve's audio. Right.

Good post, Lawoman.
I can only conclude the obvious that unless someone that is clarvoyant
or psychic knows when and where he will adlib or "mess up"
the vocals are indeed live,
