IN CONCERT DAVE VS. JJ

Postby Eyeof » Thu Jun 22, 2006 1:44 am

My last post got me thinking of preferences for the two and the differences....so I'll list songs and we can talk of what we prefer...

Summer Nights - I like Dave on this one, although JJ does a great job with it as well. Older material, but JJ stands up well. I'd saw draw.

Eye of the Tiger - Slight edge to Dave, but not a lot. JJ has adapted well to this.

Broken Promises - JJ song, but you can tell it was written for Dave...I'll give the raw edge to Dave on this one.

Burning Heart - JJ..doesn't help I've actually never heard Dave sing it.

High On You - JJ all the way, High on you is JJ Survivor.

Nothing Can Shake Me - Conversly, NCSM is Dave Survivor. The band rocking out at its hardest.

Can't Give it Up - Both rock out on this - draw.

The Search is Over - Dave holds his on, but JJ does this song best.

Ever Since the World Began - I like JJ on this, but I like the way Dave comes accross with it.

Too Hot To Sleep - JJ all the way.

Burning Bridges - I like both guys on this one, advantage JJ.

Feel Like Love - Dave.

First Night - JJ

Caught in the Game - Surprising draw.

I'm not that man anymore - Dave

Poor Man's Son - Dave

I can't hold Back - I like Dave here, but slight edge to JJ.

I only perspective on a limited # of these from both dudes.

What is that "Nothing Can Shake Me?" Sounds badasss. I gotta hear this song.

Oh my gosh dude..."Nothing Can Shake Me" is from their first album. They used to play it live all the time with Dave in the early 90's...starts slow with a guitar sound and then just kicks in and goes mad....probably my favorite Survivor tune...

Got it. The heavty parts really kick ass but the more mellow....eh. not a fan.
Seems like they followed this template w/ First Night too, with the ballad deke leading into balls out rock. With First Night it works better for me b/c the only going back is the brief slow down in the middle before JJ blasts: "AAANNNDD THIS NIGHT......!"

Bickler's voice during the heavy portions of You Can't Shake Me goes to a menacing level. Holy Shit that sounds good.

If you don't have the first two albums, you need to get them. Premonition is my favorite Survivor/Dave album. Nothing Can Shake Me is awesome. Love how it builds and then Dave screams out his vocals. Great song and one of my favs.
