What can we hope for with Journey?

With all that has been said on this great band i wonder what can we hope for in the future?
1.Maybe Steve will sort his voice problems,but i fear he is of an age were his voice is as good as it can be.
2.A new record would be great but Steve has to be able to cope with the tour to follow.
3.The group continue as they are(using tapes)
4.We find out that there is no truth in these rumours and the band continue to delight the fans.
5.Replace Steve,a risky thing to do as Augeri is well loved.
6.Split up and call it a day.

Journey evan at there biggest with Perry struggled with the media,Rolling Stone called them corporate rock and dismissed their records. Music for housewives someone once wrote(mayde on BT ) But they had hit singles and albums and very large and successful tours fronted by a well known frontman with a voice from the heavens that helped them fight back at the critics.
This is all gone now and they have a accusation against them that undermines all thay have achieved with this line up, i fear they will never recover from this.God help if this is mentioned to Perry and he says i told you they should not have cracked the stone!

Were do you think the band can go from here?

I'd prefer if they stayed together, that they just make records and not tour (as much if at all, if it kills voices the way it's said to do).

In the mainstream, they dropped off the planet after there was no tour for Trial By Fire. Do you remember the excitement, the buzz, the media that Trial By Fire recieved? Heck, it sold a ton of copies the day it was released !!!!

Now, where was that same mass enthusiasm with Arrival, Red 13, and Generations?

In addition, HUGE fanfare with Escape 1981 Houston DVD. HUGE!

2001 DVD? Not much of a radar blip except for internet Journey geeks like us. Even then, it wasn't that big of a deal

My hope would be this. Somehow, and I don't know how, get Perry back in the band. Bury yourselves in the studio and take a few months to make a kick ass album. Perry is VERY in tune with today's music, so I think he could really keep the core Journey sound yet help it evolve enough to generate radio play. Surface in 2007 and do a huge stadium tour. Keep the tour dates to a minimum, say 2 a week, and most importantly GET A LABEL. With Perry back, promoters would be lining up. You could bet your ass with a quality album they could have an incredible year.

That same buzz would return if Steve Perry ever decided to get back on board. The Escape DVD and last years Don't Stop Believin' success are proof that the music is timeless and that people still love it

Sony would claim them up in a New York minute with Perry, but I'd prefer Perry do his own thing at this point. Even if it's staying to himself mostly. I'm sure he's happy doing what he's doing.

Showing the Las Vegas show/2001 DVD on DirecTv "FREEview" was probably the biggest so called mainstream thing that happened to them after Perry was gone. And being Free, meant a lot of people probably recorded it and dind't care to spend money on something they already had.

To answer the Q of the thread ("What can we hope for with Journey?"),I would say:the truth.If they care about their 30 year long career and especially about their reputation,they'd better speak up and acknowledge their fan's concerns.A response of any kind would help them better than the silence.

The band's future plans are depending on the way they will deal with the present situation.IMHO.

As Shania said (and many of you HAVE said in the past) I think that they should respond 1st and foremost. This "tape-gate" thing is crippling either way if it's not responded to.

That being said...I'd like to see the Last Tour be (this GIANT pipe Dream of an idea but...) ALL members past and present do maybe 6 or 7 shows...Festival type shows...in HOUSTON, Chicago, L.A., New York, Orlando, DALLAS, and some other city (Obviously I'm in Texas...so I want 2.LOL) And maybe a 2 disc album..Like "Yes-Union"(Union wasn't 2 discs...I know..but all members were there...). But I'd love to see them go out with one hell of a show and go out on top.
I know that's a far-fetched notion...but think about it. That would be GREAT. lol.

To me, I would really enjoy hearing Perry do hiw own thing.

I've been a fan for years, back to Infinity, and seen Perry live many times. There's no way to describe the enegry-level and stellar performances back then....and as much as I would like to see it again, I honestly think that today I'd rather hear Steve Perry do something slightly different. Kind of do his own spin on things, and just put out a great new CD!

Like someone else previously mentioned...he doesn't have to follow with a painstakling tour schedule...just hit some major markets...maybe something on TV....who knows, but the point being is that there's so many unique options.

Same here. I did NOT hear very much hype about Trial By Fire or Steve Perry being back in the band other than from other Journey fans. Yes, the Journey of the 1980's was bigger than Journey now, but I don't see much difference success wise between Journey at the time of Trial By Fire's release and Journey now.

I would love to hear Steve Perry make another Journey album someday, but I don't think that it would make them be as successfull as they were in the 1980's.

As much as I have enjoyed Steve Augeri's performances in the past, I was underwhelmed by his vocals on Generations. To be fair I wasn't particulary impressed by Dean either and found his voice a little hollow.

Steve Augeri sounds like he needs a rest and if Steve Perry isn't coming back then Hugo would make a wonderful alternative, in my opinion of course.

First, the current situation needs to be addressed by the band and/or management before anything positive can happen for Journey.

As far as Journey's future, I think they really have to be careful going forward. If there is an issue with Steve A. (from the accusations to the recent reviews), I personally think it would be strange to try a third lead vocalists. With Journey somewhat at the end of their life-cycle, they way I see it...either continue on as is, or go back to the original. Otherwise, their fan base would decrease dramatically.

I like most, love hearing new Journey tunes...although they don't have the same impact on me as they did years ago. I'll admit, I miss the Perry days big time. Those concerts and songs were just undescribable.

I always thought Steve A. would be okay going forward, but he never captured the same essense of Steve P. to me. I saw them at the House of Blues after their Star on the Walk, hoping Steve P. might show up.....and it was my first live show with Augeri....I can honestly say the weakest link by far was Augeri. Just didn't have the same power, delivery, etc.

They face a tough decision going forward.
