Favorite vocalists other than Perry or Augeri?

Just curious as the favorite vocalists of those here in this forum other than Perry or Augeri, especially those here who actually sing for a living or who have studio/stage experience.

My two favorites, and perhaps higher on my list than Perry, are Lou Gramm and Steve Walsh. Though Lou didn't have quite the range that Perry did in their glory days, there was always something I liked about his voice, perhaps more of a soulful quality than most white, male, rock singers. On the other hand, Walsh did have the range that Perry had in his prime, though his self-admitted lack of training or technique led to some rapid decline in his abilities in the 80's (along with drug abuse...).

Freddie Mercury, Ann Wilson and (I'm biased on this one) Michael McDonald, but for very different reasons.

Freddie because he was entertaining as well as a great singer. MMD for various reasons. Ann Wilson, because there wasn't anyone much better than her in her prime. (at the time)

I loved Freddie's vocals. When he wasn't singing falsetto, he sounded great. He actually sounded pretty good up until almost the day he died. His vocals on the last song he ever recorded, "Mother Love", give me chills up my spine to this day....How sad. :cry:

I think both of those guys sounded better as they entered their late 30s to early 40s. I actually like Geddy's voice as well when he's not singing the really high, squealy stuff, not to mention that I'm also a huge Rush fan.

Dennis DeYoung is still a great choice to this day.

Freddie was great (to me) even and especially for his falsetto, but that's just me.

The last album they put out, was one of their best ever by them. (my opinion)

Yea. I wasn't too keen on Dennis' voice in the early years (Wooden Nickel era..) but up at about Grand Illusion or even Crystal Ball...It seemed to get that fullness that it has now.
Geddy...Nobody could scream like Geddy. That's one of the things I loved. "Somethin' For Nothing" rings a bell on why I liked it. Love the keyed down voice he has now even more though. :-)

Rick Florian - vocalist for an 80's Christian band called White Heart. Guy rivalled Perry in his fantastic tenor voice.

Warren Wiebe - sang several songs on David Foster's "River of Love" album. FANTASTIC voice!

I like Sting, Simon LeBon, and George Michael (yeah, I know, but the guy can flat sing!) as well.

I was never a big fan of them but that does bring to mind another great singer in a Christian band...A guy by the name of Andy Denton who was the singer for Legend, later renamed to Legend Seven.

Nothing silly there...I love JLT's vocals on Yngwie Malmsteen's "Odyssey" album and RJD is great as well.

Joe Lynn Turner was a good one too, haven't heard him lately, but I liked him fine.

Also Warren Zevon comes to mind. not mainstream Rock, but... a favorite.

Speaking of Christian artists...John Schlitt, fomerly of Petra, was a good one as well. In fact, the first time I heard a Petra song with him fronting the band, I thought it sounded like Journey. That was a long time ago, though, and I wasn't as familiar with either band's music as I am now.

It seems that most Yngwie fans don't care much for that album but I love it...JLT's voice fits perfect for those songs, in my opinion. He may not have quite had the pipes that Jeff Scott Soto had but he was still great on that album.

Geddy is a fine vocalist for his style, never been my thing, but I respect his ability.

That said, NO ONE knows how to throw a "show" like Sammy. And you know what I mean. Ever since I saw him live in '84, I knew I'd be a lifelong fan.

I've seen every show in Houston since the "Marching To Mars" tour...and you're right. It's a GIANT party and I love it. (Hell...I just saw him June 10th and turned a few of my friends into Sammy fans.lol)

Damn right, Odyssey kicks butt! one of my all time favs. JLT has some great tunes on his "Rescue You" solo album, such as Endlessly (great vocal ability there) just a really good singer.

Yup JLT is as good as they come and he still kicks hiney (love Odyssey as well)8) I saw him together with Glenn Hughes a couple of years back, unbelieveable! There are a couple of gents who certainly aren't in need of any technical assistance.

Also just heard an Iron Maiden tribute album (from 2005) where JLT does a magnificent cover of "Two Minutes to Midnight". His voice fits right to the song (his voice, although still rich and powerful, has become a bit raspier over the years).
