Journey Questions?

I have to ask the following hypothetical questions:

1[b]) Would Journey have cancelled the tour had Neal broken an arm or Jonathon become sick?[/b] Absolutely - and rightly so. Let's not lose fact that as much as they claim to be a "band". They cut Steve loose too easily. The right thing to do would be to give Steve the time off this summer and see if his health improves. Cancel the remaining dates and if he cannot sing down the road, then you make the decision to move on without him. This was cold.

2) If Journey knew that Raleigh was Steve's last show, why not let the audience know so they could give Steve the proper send off? Steve deserved a huge ovation for his dedication to the band.

3) How long has Steve's voice been an issue? Probably, longer than we realize. Why in the world would they schedule a tour and risk embarrasment. They lost a lot of credibility with fans and critics alike. They should have taken a year off as stated in point #1 above. Greed?

4) Is this the end of Journey? Could quite possibly be. They lucked out with Augeri who was a great replacement, but lightening does not strike the same place twice.

5) Will we ever get the real story? Probably, some day. I see a Rolling Stone article down the road exposing the truth.

Lastly, I hope the band does right by Steve Augeri. I have met the man and he could not have been nicer to me and my family. He deserves a chance to come back stronger than ever. I hope the others give him that chance. I'm not overly optimistic though.

This isn't Journey's tour...it's Def Leppard's. Journey simply did not have the option of canceling the tour. There was another band involved and the deal with the venues was for two bands not one. They did not let him go too easily, IMO, they held onto him too long.

Steve has been having voice issues for well over a year. Neal addressed it in interviews.

I believe JSS could well breathe new life into Journey, if they don't try and cram him into Perry's shoes. He has a different and much more outgoing stage persona than Augeri did.

They don't need a Rolling Stone story. The truth was already exposed. Augeri's gone. End of story.

Band's cancel tours all the time (ie: The Cars/Blondie). They should have never let it get this far. They will get their $$$, but they lost a lot more in respect and credibility. Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame - not anytime soon unfortunatly. Even Steve Perry gets hurt by this scandal.

Yes on both accounts, plus, my opinion is they cut Augeri loose because he couldn't perform live any longer and they had been caught using tapes. As Cain so ELOQUENTLY pointed out...they have legacy to protect. A bit LATE, but now it is done.

Yes, that and they thought no fan or even sound engineers who had direct access to their sound board would pay attention and speak up.

4) Is this the end of Journey? No. It will go on as long as they need the money that the name Journey can bring. That is why I am very interested in seeing what they have planned for a Soto fronted Journey. The same old greatest hits tours or stike out fearlessly into new territory and play what they write.

5) Will we ever get the real story? No. All you'll get if you get anything is spin. Truth can be liberating, but also pretty ugly.

Lastly, I hope the band does right by Steve Augeri. Well, first Mr. Augeri needs to do right by Mr. Augeri. I didn't see him with a ball and chain attached to his leg on that stage. He needed to leave, which would have forced them to either have Deen sing until they could get Soto in. If any of them were concerned about legacy, NONE of them showed it through this entire mess.

You're right. It shouldn't have gotten this far. IMO, they should have replaced him before the tour started so he could have left with some dignity instead of shame.

Steve Perry's money is just as green regardless of whothe lead singer is.

If your looking to find truth in Rolling Stone Magazine you better look real hard. That mag has never liked Journey, what makes you think they would write the truth about them now without their preconceived opinions getting in the way. Rolling Stone is the the National Enquirer of the music business.
